From IMDB: "Abortionist Vera Drake finds her beliefs and practices clash with the mores of 1950s Britain--a conflict that leads to tragedy for her family."

Same old same old...poor abortionist who is defeated by the oppressive and hateful pro lifers...no, I will not se it if this is the horrid message they are putting out. And shame on Mike Leigh for doing this! I had more respect for him until this.

This is one of the aspects of awards ceremonies that I find repugnant. The awards should be made based upon the current period's works, not past achievements, or making redress for past oversights (i.e. Hollywood version of affirmative action). There is way too much "he shoulkd have got it last year, so this year he desrves to win" nonsense. That kind of POV gave us Bill Clinton.

If BIlly Crystal won't come back, I vote for Robin Williams.

I caught Rocks opening routine in Frys on a giant screen, he was Not funny. If the rest of the show went like the opening it must have been boring.

Well what can I say in response to a one line synopsis you picked up off some site! Here's ther truth from someone who saw it...The pro-life position is given a very sympathetic portrait in this film. Not hateful at all. You haven't seen it and are appearing as very foolish talking about it. :-)

Oh, I was spot on.

The Academy Jewish voting block are extremely liberal, are for abortion, including post term abortions.

The movie was about killing Kevorkian style and the Academy ate it up.

Somebody pointed out this is what Hitler did as well, with lots of Jews and that lots of Jews are in these few thousands of elites voting for this euthanasia.

Seems a point well taken, rather factual and not a cheap shot, just a fact of life regarding the Academy.

I didn't catch MDB, nor did I read the book, so I couldn't say. I wasn't dissecting Clint's position, I was just making an attempt at a lame joke. I guess it didn't succeed! :-)
