Why I Am a Liberal (Not trolling - Jist food for thought)

Some of my friends, family members, and co-workers wonder how I could be a political liberal in the midst of this new swell of conservatism the United States. The answers to that are all too simple.

I am a liberal because the system originated by liberals called Social Security has made my parents' retirement more possible and comfortable than it would otherwise have been.

I am a liberal because the system originated by liberals called Medicare paid for my mother to have two knees and a hip replaced at a cost that otherwise could not have been born by all of her children together.

I am a liberal because Medicare paid for my father's operation to remove a cancerous kidney at a cost that would otherwise certainly have forced my parents to liquidate their assets.

I am a liberal because that system originated by liberals called WIC gives my daughter food stamps for cheese and milk and other necessities she needs to feed her children.

I am a liberal because that system demanded by liberals called company-paid employee medical insurance helps pay doctor bills for me and my wife and my daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren and sister and most of my other close relatives.

I am a liberal because the idea of autonomy of the individual is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because government by the consent of the governed is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because the Bill of Rights is a set of liberal ideas which protect us all. Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of worship, freedom of the press, due process of law, freedom from torture, the right to face our accusers, the writ of habeas corpus, and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure are all liberal ideas. Most people in the world do not have those rights.

I am a liberal because those liberal ideas in our Constitution give us control of our representatives from the school board to the Senate and President of the United States, give us the liberal idea of checks and balances, and the liberal idea of no taxation without representation.

I am a liberal because the idea of a strong, well funded and disciplined military under civilian control is a liberal idea, as is the notion of Veteran's benefits and military retirement.

I am a liberal because the Geneva Conventions are a liberal idea. The conventions protect American prisoners and all prisoners of signees from torture and abuse.

I am a liberal because the idea of the public maintenance of roads is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because civil rights, children's rights, women's rights, and labor rights, are all liberal ideas.

I am a liberal because almost all the progressive ideas of the last four centuries have been liberal ideas resisted by the conservatives of their times. Those liberal ideas make this a better place to live for me, my family, my friends, my community, my country, and my world.

I ask people who insist on repudiating liberalism to please check off the liberal ideas above they are ready to do without.

Social Security is the crutch in which the federal Government legally depends on to pork bill every good thing or bad thing that Government espouses millions of people who are on the system would be better off with their own investments and richer for it

Yet that Operation could have been paid for by their own Investments once again if they were allowed to use their own monies to invest in their future

Wheres the father ? Why did your daughter get pregnant to begin with without any form of income ? did you teach her responsibility

So in order for your Employed relatives to go to the doctor the price of goods and services should be passed on to the consumer It should not be an employers job to take care of sick people unless its a Job related injury it furthermore should be the job of the individual to procure the means of their own medical attention

Self determination is not a Liberal ideal it's an individual ideal you choose to be liberal because your to scared to be free freedom to you is to follow the flock

I am a liberal because the idea of political liberty is a liberal idea.

Did you not vote for who you wanted to win ? if you did and he did not win it does not mean you weren't free to choose ? you just lost and now your feeling sorry for yourself that you chose wrong

Freedom is not a Liberal ideal Free is what God meant for man to be freedom is a path but liberals seem to forget that they think if they are following the herd that means they are free with every inane absolute ignorant special interest bill the liberal pushes through congress the less free working people are but liberal lemmings deserve what they wish for to walk off the cliff with their leader

And you need to get on your knees and thank God you do but then again these are once again they are not liberal ideals they are freedoms what freedoms has liberalism given to man in the last 50 years where it hasn't taken that very same freedom from someone else ? I pay taxes and social security so your unmarried daughter you should have taught to be abstinent can feed her child ! why don't you feed her child ? and so some damn bug can live free in the woods or so a Forrest can burn down because some liberal don't want to disturb a damn owl

This is one hell of a illusion you have about the constitution being a liberal document the founders would thrown up at the very thought of a liberal society where everyone pays the price for the laziness of a few they would have told your daughter to get a job which is something you should be doing if you had the guts

I am a liberal because the idea of public education is a liberal idea.

Well ! This is a good thing ? it's been failing since it's inception it's only gotten better in recent years because some schools have decided to actually teach than to babysit

I am a liberal because the idea of a five day work week is a liberal idea.

Yea explain that to the liberal/socialist french besides the only liberals i know that work 5 days a week are the ones who are trying to take other peoples freedoms away from them the rest are working 6 days a week to avoid work !

The conventions protect American prisoners and all prisoners of signees from torture and abuse.Explain that to the thousands that were butchered in POW camps in vietnam tortured and beaten and these were real soldiers not insurgent mudering homicide bombers or some weak at the knees terrorist who dont have the guts to wear a uniform !!

But you wont build roads through Forrest to create and maintain them and your liberal buddies in congress divert those monies to snake breeding in Guatemala

Of God and man you liberals are truly the scum at the bottom of the pond ! taking credit for Creating freedoms is something you people can never do because you enslave those who would speak against you and your idea of freedom is distasteful to any rationally thinking person
