Why I Am a Liberal (Not trolling - Jist food for thought)
useless knowledge ^ | Warren C. Norwood

Posted on 02/18/2005 2:52:25 PM PST by loe joe

Some of my friends, family members, and co-workers wonder how I could be a political liberal in the midst of this new swell of conservatism the United States. The answers to that are all too simple.

I am a liberal because the system originated by liberals called Social Security has made my parents' retirement more possible and comfortable than it would otherwise have been.

I am a liberal because the system originated by liberals called Medicare paid for my mother to have two knees and a hip replaced at a cost that otherwise could not have been born by all of her children together.

I am a liberal because Medicare paid for my father's operation to remove a cancerous kidney at a cost that would otherwise certainly have forced my parents to liquidate their assets.

I am a liberal because that system originated by liberals called WIC gives my daughter food stamps for cheese and milk and other necessities she needs to feed her children.

I am a liberal because that system demanded by liberals called company-paid employee medical insurance helps pay doctor bills for me and my wife and my daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren and sister and most of my other close relatives.

I am a liberal because the idea of autonomy of the individual is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because the idea of political liberty is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because government by the consent of the governed is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because the Bill of Rights is a set of liberal ideas which protect us all. Freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of worship, freedom of the press, due process of law, freedom from torture, the right to face our accusers, the writ of habeas corpus, and freedom from unreasonable search and seizure are all liberal ideas. Most people in the world do not have those rights.

I am a liberal because those liberal ideas in our Constitution give us control of our representatives from the school board to the Senate and President of the United States, give us the liberal idea of checks and balances, and the liberal idea of no taxation without representation.

I am a liberal because the idea of public education is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because the idea of a five day work week is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because the idea of a strong, well funded and disciplined military under civilian control is a liberal idea, as is the notion of Veteran's benefits and military retirement.

I am a liberal because the Geneva Conventions are a liberal idea. The conventions protect American prisoners and all prisoners of signees from torture and abuse.

I am a liberal because the idea of the public maintenance of roads is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because civil rights, children's rights, women's rights, and labor rights, are all liberal ideas.

I am a liberal because almost all the progressive ideas of the last four centuries have been liberal ideas resisted by the conservatives of their times. Those liberal ideas make this a better place to live for me, my family, my friends, my community, my country, and my world.

I ask people who insist on repudiating liberalism to please check off the liberal ideas above they are ready to do without.

for all of your govt solutions to the evil health care systemin this country, Notice that had there been none of these socialist giveaways and govt meddling with the health system in this country, those operations wouldnt have cost that much in the first place. Govt isnt the solution to the problem, govt is the problem.

autonomy of the individual is a liberal idea. Excuse me. Liberal Dogma is to squash all individualism in this country. You are collectivists and socialists. You want to make everyone the same thing by robbing those that do.

political liberty is a liberal idea. Dont make me laugh. read the fairness doctrine. When your socialist agenda starts to fail, you squeal the loudest about forcing people to listen to your tripe.

I notice you didnt include that obvious right to keep and bear arms in there.

You are a liberal because if you had a working brain you'd know that all the cr@p you listed either doesn't work or comes out of somebody else's pocket.

No, its not sarcasm, its true.

I was referring to Conundrum's response to what I said in post #29.

loe joe: I am a liberal because the Geneva Conventions are a liberal idea. The conventions protect American prisoners and all prisoners of signees from torture and abuse.

Yeah right. Saddam was firm believer in the Geneva Convention (lol)

Is the right to bear arms a liberal idea? If so someone should tell Chuck Shumer and Ted Kennedy.

I am a liberal because the idea of autonomy of the individual is a liberal idea.

And insisting on all of these governmental assistance social programs is related to individual autonomy how?

Hi Darks! Good to see you.

Say did you hear the one about the bees that went on strike?

They wanted shorter flowers and more honey.

I was responding to the original poster, not you....

Some "liberals" seem to think anybody who gets activist ought to be covered by the geneva conventions...especially terrorists...

No, "me and my wife" is correct.

Doesn't mean the rest of the post isn't full of BS, though.

I am a liberal because the system originated by liberals called Social Security has made my parents' retirement more possible and comfortable than it would otherwise have been.

Somebody else pays the bills (and the system goes broke for the current workers that contribute)

I am a liberal because the system originated by liberals called Medicare paid for my mother to have two knees and a hip replaced at a cost that otherwise could not have been born by all of her children together.

Somebody else pays the bills (and those that pay for insurance foot the difference in higher costs)

I am a liberal because Medicare paid for my father's operation to remove a cancerous kidney at a cost that would otherwise certainly have forced my parents to liquidate their assets.

Somebody else pays the bills (so you can keep your “assets”)

I am a liberal because that system originated by liberals called WIC gives my daughter food stamps for cheese and milk and other necessities she needs to feed her children.

Somebody else pays the bills (because your daughter has made such pathetic life choices that she can feed her own children)

I am a liberal because that system demanded by liberals called company-paid employee medical insurance helps pay doctor bills for me and my wife and my daughter and son-in-law and grandchildren and sister and most of my other close relatives.

Somebody else pays the bills (your employer, who passes the expense on to those that purchase their goods or services)

I am a liberal because the idea of autonomy of the individual is a liberal idea.

Show me a conservative commune.

I am a liberal because the idea of political liberty is a liberal idea.

Show me a liberal that doesn’t march in lockstep with a far-left ideology steeped in political correctness.

I am a liberal because government by the consent of the governed is a liberal idea.

Ridiculous on its face.  Liberals believe in and aspire to create the Nanny State.

Freedom of speech (unless someone uses the “N-word”), Freedom of Assembly (except in front of Abortion Clinics), Freedom of Worship (except Christianity), Freedom of the Press (except Fox News), Due Process of Law (except for Cops that shoot Criminals), Freedom from Torture (except for anyone forced to listen to Barbra Streisand), the Right to face our Accusers... and so on and so forth.

I am a liberal because those liberal ideas in our Constitution give us control of our representatives from the school board to the Senate and President of the United States, give us the liberal idea of checks and balances, and the liberal idea of no taxation without representation.

Wrong.  Diebold controls who gets elected, and taxation without representation is the cornerstone of liberal thought.

I am a liberal because the idea of public education is a liberal idea.

I am a liberal because the idea of public education is a liberal failure.

I am a liberal because the idea of a five day work week is a liberal idea.

Five day work week?  Is this 1948?

I am a liberal because the idea of a strong, well funded and disciplined military under civilian control is a liberal idea, as is the notion of Veteran's benefits and military retirement.

No blood for oil.  Next!

I am a liberal because the Geneva Conventions are a liberal idea. The conventions protect American prisoners and all prisoners of signees from torture and abuse.

Wrong.  The Geneva Conventions were a reaction to the horrors of WWII, and only apply to standing armies.  They offer no protections whatsoever.

I am a liberal because the idea of the public maintenance of roads is a liberal idea.

You obviously don’t drive the 405.

I am a liberal because civil rights, children's rights, women's rights, and labor rights, are all liberal ideas.

More Republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act than Democrats (as a percentage of politicians).  Southern Democrats attempted to filibuster it, then voted against it.

I am a liberal because almost all the progressive ideas of the last four centuries have been liberal ideas resisted by the conservatives of their times. Those liberal ideas make this a better place to live for me, my family, my friends, my community, my country, and my world.

I’m sure the millions of corpses in unmarked graves throughout Europe and South-East Asia would disagree, if they could.

I ask people who insist on repudiating liberalism to please check off the liberal ideas above they are ready to do without.

Seeing as how this entire screed is filled with lies, half-truths and misrepresentations of facts (and financed without someone else's money), it is a the perfect example of “liberal ideas”.

"I think "me and my wife" is correct in this case. Don't hit me."

I thought the test was that if you could remove the other person from the sentence and have it still work, it was correct.

example:

"Jim went to the store with Tom and me" is correct because "Jim went to the store with me" is correct.

"me and my wife went to the store" would not work because "me went to the store" would not work.

Grammar is not my strong suite. would appreciate someone letting me know if this "rule" is valid.

thanks
