My seventh grader is doing a science fair project involving "handedness". She needs a larger sample for her data. If you would like to help, please do the following: clasp your hands together with your fingers intertwined. Report which thumb is on top and if you are right or left handed. Thanks for your help! Standing outside the grocery store didn't work, even with tootsie rolls as a thank you. People were too afraid we were selling something!
My grandmother always told me (a girl) that if your second toe is longer than your big toe...that you would boss your husband.
Left handed. Left thumb on top.
right hand but left thumb is on top
Right handed. Left thumb on top.
Right handed, right thumb on top.
Left handed. Left thumb on top.
Right handed....left thumb on top
Was it Captain Kangaroo? ..or am I drifting into the pleasant land...
I am the only one out of the 5 of my brothers and sisters who has the Big Second Toe (BST).
I remember when my first child was born (almost 10 years ago), I called my sister and said "We had a girl -- and her second toe is normal!".
Right thumb on top, right handed. I recently had 7th graders. Great book on projects like this: Science Fair Success Secrets. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0525465340/qid=1108696330/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/002-3562705-9719255?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
From Diva's Husband -
She is sitting here claiming that neither side goes over or under - they sort of balance in the middle. She is sincerely convinced of it.
Unfortunately I think you will have to include this in your data.
I will attempt to monitor her behaviour in the future, and catch her with one thuumb over the other. I will fill you in if we can get a correction.
Myself - left thumb over right. Right handed.
Diva's Husband
I asked my hubby to do this...he is right handed, and wound up with his right thumb on top...
I am left handed(at least I write with my left hand)...when I did this I also wound up with my right thumb on top...(I do many things right handed tho...I bat right handed, I catch and throw a ball right handed, I eat with my right hand, and do several other things right handed...
When I tried to learn to play pool, I could not do it, because everyone was righthanded, and I could not do it that way...had to find a left handed person to show me how to play pool...
When my older boy was small, he wanted me to show him how to tie his shoelaces...I kept showing him, and he just could not get it...said it looked 'wrong' to him...then it dawned on me, that perhaps I was tying his shoes as a left handed person...so I took him across the hall to my neighbor, (I knew she was righthanded)...and she had to show him only one time, ,and he had it...we compared how we tied shoes, and sure enough its different...so when my younger boy wanted to learn to tie his shoes, I just had his older brother show him...
What is interesting in my extended family, is that on both my mother and fathers lines, no one in their generation is left handed...they are all righties...but they all produced children(my generation) where left handedness is dominant...2/3 of my cousins are left handed as I am...yet none of us that are left handed have produced any children who are left handed...all of our kids are right handed...
I think so! But I dunno...I just remember Mom singing it...and I record I had, I think.
My memories on the subject are very shaky! ;-)
Anyway, here's me... left thumb on top. Right-handed.
I just made my daughter do it... left thumb on top. She's left-handed.
One of us must be weird.
Left on top, Right handed.
standing outside the grocery store didn't work
And it worked the same for me at the grocery store. Sorry, but the gorcery store is a few miles away, otherwise I would have reported sooner...
Left-handed, left thumb on top.
It's called "Morton's Toe." You can Google up a lot of references on it.
Apparently, it made designing running shoes difficult.
Right handed,left thumb on top.
