Keep up the good work Sean!
If you're taking flak, you're over the target!
Bombs away!
It's the transcripts that count.
I hope someone can post them soon, and end all the bull being slung.
-- In your estimation, is Hannity being irrational about FR?
Ouch! That'll leave a mark....
I haven't read the whole thread but if no one else has asked, source please?
I would like to see Jim's words stating what you say he said.
Thanks.
The first war occurred in 99. In 99 there were a number of media connected posters like Ann Coulter, Rush, Drudge, etc. The level of dialog was very good. Made one think twice before jumping in. Anyway, a rumor had it that Clinton was connected to coke dealers in Ar. And some said Bush 1 was too. Well, accusing Bush 1 of being a drug dealer or turning a blind eye towards it started one hell of a fight.
Now mind you there was allot of noise on the net about it and there had been noise for many years in Usenet news groups, so the story had legs, at least on the net.
In the ensuing debate hard feeling developed, one group (the pro Bush group) was lead by Trixy (Luceanna Goldberg) she got so mad that she left and started her own site (maybe that was the plan all along?) nd with her left allot of other excellent posters. Every day was opus day for weeks and weeks. It got so bad we started rating the opuses, Some were great fun to read, some were tear jerkers, others were just a quick FU I'm outta here. That was Freeper war 1. I was a newbe at FR and wisely stand out of that war, since I really did not know the politics involved. Anyway Drudge pulled his link to FR, stopped posting, trixy and her friend moved over to her new site.
Just as things started to settle down we had Freeper war 2. Freeper war 2 was an all out take no prisoners food fight. The fight was over who should be supported in the upcoming presidential election. We used to have a large number of Pat Buchanan supporters, Allen Keys supporters, a few John McCain supporters and of course lots of Bush supporters. Well it was an ugly your man can't win, your man is an empty suit, your man is a traitor, your man is a coward, etc.
Then it got personal, you are an idiot, you are a RINO, you a liar. Posters were being banned for personal attacks en mass. Mainly the Pat B supporters, and to a lessor extent the Allan Keyes supporters. The question of the day was "who got booted today?". Eventually the Pat B supporters left to start their own site (now defunct). And I guess Connie Hair (Clinton Is A Liar) got pissed, left and took the Keyes supporters with her. I have heard that she is now very much anti free republic but I have no first hand info on that.
After Freeper war 2 , management came up with the idea of admin monitors to try and keep the wars under control.
Hope that helps, that is my recollection but I am sure other will remember things differently.
"Hey, we all get our day in the barrel on FR. No one is immune."
But in the end it's "Eagles Up"
I think he took a handful of personal attacks personally. After today's show I think he respects what's going on here but he's still mildly soured from the bad apples.
"Thanks Captain Obvious. I'm just a little confused because Hannity was saying FR has turned to crap"
Sean was referring to the personal attacks.
Thanks for the ping Mo1.
"Do we even know who "the target" is?"
Hint....most Democrats, Liberals....

You have an excellent point. I remember when Drudge was criticized for something and the next thing you know...FReeREpublic was pulled from his website.
They either wrote their own ZOT Opus, or got lured away to some other site.
That's a softball.....nowhere.
Amen. Thank you, TruthSetsUFree, for freeing up this set of truth. It's really all that needs to be said about this matter.
Not that I won't ramble and elaborate anyway...
Ultimately, what matters is the exchange and dissemination of ideas. A lot of folks, I think, get caught up in a lot of tangential stuff -- stuff driven more by emotion than reason. This Hannity brouhaha is an ideal example. Maybe I'm just different from most, but as long as I've been here at Free Republic -- well over half a decade now* -- I've never thought of it as a "home." It isn't something I've adopted as a defining personal quality.
I visit Free Republic and other forums to discuss politics, philosophy and ideology. What has always mattered to me is that discussion itself -- not the particular place where it happens to occur. It's simply irrelevant to me what Sean Hannity, or anyone else, has to say about a particular forum, because I don't feel some emotional attachment to an Internet forum. I guess that's why I don't take it personally.
We should define ourselves by the convictions we hold, and not get caught up in what someone else says about the particular medium where those convictions are expressed.
Again, I'll emphasize: Maybe it's just me. It's not my place to judge others personally because they feel angered or hurt. So I can speak only in broader terms when I say that the wisest route is to simply ignore comments like those made yesterday by Hannity.
As TruthSetsUFree noted, all that really matters here is "the cause of conservatism and truth and freedom." And that is the one thing that's worth getting worked up about.
(*Some of you undoubtedly will glance at my profile page and see that "Semolina Pilchard" is a recently registered name. Just for the record, that's all it is: a name that's been recently registered. I was here long before that, but under a different log-in. I switched names because I'd started a blog with the "Semolina" alias. Just keeping my pseudonym uniform across the Web. [Not to mention, as any Beatles fan can attest, "Semolina Pilchard" is far superior to my previous nick anyway!])
One more thing Sean...Don't Mess with Free Republic!
What happened? Generally the inability of some to understand the policy below.....one that the owners are almost always willing to cut somebody some slack. :-)
Please enjoy our forum, but also
*please remember to use common courtesy when posting and *refrain from posting personal attacks, profanity, vulgarity, threats, racial or religious bigotry, or any other materials offensive or otherwise inappropriate for a conservative family audience.
HOT DANG! I IS FAMUS!!
