Couple take lumps since cookie suit

One recent caller had told him that "you should be found dead in a ditch."

Nine out of 10 calls to his house are from "crackpots," he said, ever since a plate of cookies and a case in La Plata County Small Claims Court turned life upside down.

I think a few folks around here are a bit trigger happy, ready to shoot anything that moves. They care more about their land and guns than they do human life. Its a sad state of affairs.

Guns are fine for protection, but having someone knock on the door is NOT having your life threatened.

Of course a normal person would have thanked the girls for being so kindhearted. They should have known to avoid a witch like this and must be punished for being so foolish as to think that Liberals like this could reciprocate such kind acts.

Actually, yes. And I would have taken my children there personally to apologize.

I would never make my children apologize for an act of kindness, unless they were irresponsible in the act. I forcefully disagree with the notion that they acted in any way irresponsibly. The vision of America that I have always known and will defend is not one where you can be sued for stepping on a neighbor's porch and knocking on the door when there apparently was no sign indicating that visitors weren't welcome. Maybe its a "Mayberry-esque" visiion of community, but hey... I'm from North Carolina. Apparently Mrs. Young's vision of America is much like yours. That is your right to maintain that vision of America. Suit yourself.

Yes, I think it was stupid of them to sue. Are they going to find someone to sue every time she freaks out? And by taking up the time of the courts and the police, taxpayers pay the bill for this frivolous crap. Our court systems are overloaded with lawsuits because people refuse to deal with their own lives and can't function without an arbitrator. All she had to do was produce a hospital bill and agree to not pursue the issue in the future and the parents would have paid. But according to what I have read they are preparing additional lawsuits against the parents, so she couldn't sign because of her "principles".
Additionally, the girls paid the fine right after the verdict. They never asked for anyone to send them money, and I certainly never did. But people did, so they turned it over to charity. Real bad seeds, these kids.
