Chief Moose was told by eye witnesses that the perps in DC were black. He REFUSED to report that during his press conferences. That could have saved lives. Don't you find that a little too PC for your taste?
New York does have carry permits.
I'm not sure why we'd automatically assume that this person is innocent. Why do you?

Anyone in a city of less than 1 miilion is probably a "redneck guy" to the caller. I live in a town of under 200 so I must be a suspect.
*Technically* the state permit to own a firearm is also a permit to carry it, but good luck getting a cop or judge to agree with you on that (from what I've read).
That said, there are a number of people in NY that are otherwise law-abiding that carry illegally just because of this sort of incident. No, I'm not from NY, but I have friends up there.
Some people have a vested interest in having certain people considered to be "privileged characters", who can lash out if they imagine they have been offended...

In this instance, I believe a little strong-arming of the suspect is needed and DUers can, um, look the other way and shutup. I am constantly surprised at how divorced from reality that crowd truly is.

Your post is just an example of how deeply entrenched the mythology about the case is.
At no point, in any press conference, or press interview, or public information statement, say they were looking for white men or the suspects were white.
