Prince Charles to Marry Camilla Parker Bowles
Thursday, February 10, 2005
LONDON Prince Charles announced Thursday that he will marry his lover Camilla Parker Bowles after more than 30 years of an on-again, off-again romance that was blamed for destroying the prince's marriage to Princess Diana.
The Prince of Wales and Parker Bowles will marry on Friday, April 8, at Windsor Castle, said Clarence House (search), Charles' residence and office.
They will be married in a largely private civil ceremony at the palace, not in a Church of England (search) service.
The April wedding which will not have the pomp and ceremony of the fairy-tale-like 1981 wedding of Diana and Charles, which was broadcast live on television worldwide.
"There will subsequently be a service of prayer and dedication in St. George's Chapel at which the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside," said Clarence House.
The decision on the type of service reflects the fact that both are divorcés, and that Parker Bowles' former husband is still living.

The dirty secret about Edward VIII is that his marriage to Wallace Simpson was the excuse used to get rid of him. The real reason was that he was too much of a nazi sympathizer (more so than Kennedy and Linburgh). Some of his conduct during the war was so outrageous that Churchill considered trying to have him prosecuted.
If Diana's sons accept their father's choice of
a new spouse, I guess I can.
I really don't think Charles will ever ascend
anyway. Assuming Elizabeth hasn't lost all her
good sense, she'll name Wills as her successor,
get approval in writing from Parliament, and
even help the young Prince with some hands-on
sessions at the table with Blair or whoever is
PM. The kid needs some practical guidance and his
grandparents are the logical ones to do it. I also
think Wills should be sent on a state visit to the
U.S. and Canada. He's done his stint in the back-
ward nations of Africa. It's time he meets the
big boys on the block.
My word, she is beautiful! Big, BIG improvement over CPB. On the other hand, that wouldn't be too hard, would it?
Lol...
The Bride will be wearing a beautiful white plastic-encrusted gown with a train of 1000 strings....
The groom will be wearing nothing but a scuba mask and K-Y.
I hate it when that happens! LOL!
Give Camilla a break. She's a lot older.
I agree---
They should have married from the get go.
Granted, William and Harry wouldn't be here (or look WAY different! ;) )
Yay! A move towards universal peace and stability. A counter to N Korean and Iranian nukes.
HAAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAAAA!
And....
a lot fuglier. Her countenance fits my new favorite word:
chibugly
a compounding of "chicken butt ugly"
Oh yeah, ever seen any pics of her when she was a teenager?
Have I missed something the Pres has said?
Charles is no Brad Pitt
I don't think so.
But I think they do allow marriages between horses in Britain.
Which is no doubt why this particular marriage would be allowed.
I do hope there are no children from this union....the mind reels.
Romance wasn't to blame...Chuckie was..Chuckie cheated on his wife...and refused to stop...Chuckie destroyed his marriage and damaged his own family...
Taking responsibility for one's own actions is a trait of the truly well bred...and well disciplined
One would think leaders of powerful nations would model this better than anyone...at least for their own children if not for the peasants
imo
Well good luck to them. I saw a documentary on Charles not long ago that said he'd met Camilla Parker while in college and tehy fell in love then. He handled it awkwardly, due to family pressures, especially from his father and the duties to which he was born and she met someone else and married. It's a sad story. I'll leave moral judgements aside and just wish them well.
Same significance.
