STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.
Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).
Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.
Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.
Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

With Clinton you are mistaking a psychopath for being intelligent, why do you stick up for the obvious ? It makes you looks bad.

Hannity is a little light on the depth meter, but how can you possibly stand that ninny Colmes?1. Hannity doesn't register on the depth meter. I honestly believe that Hannity is some form of anthropoid plant or fungus.
2. Colmes is not entertaining himself, but he makes for interesting debate...especially with Coulter.

You can't design a guest worker program without some sort of amnesty. I think conservatives will march to their own drummer on immigration. Jim Sensenbrenner had some very good ideas last time around and I hope they'll be back. What was missing was upholding our national sovereignty. In the post 9/11 age, there's zero excuse for adequately protecting our borders.

One of the congress critters from CA just said on CNN that Social Security $$ isn't OUR money; that the money belongs to HER mother and her friends!
That is going to be the core debate. Is the money YOU paid into social security YOUR money for YOUR retirement?

I swear, MSNBC is TRYING to go in the tank by having Ronnie on. There is no other reason for it.

Yes, Chris questioned the blue ink at first...he saw it as dangerous and something that might make people hold back. I don't mean to overanalyze him...but I think that was before he opened his eyes and saw what that election meant.
I think this is a wonderful illustration of how it is completely impossible for any liberal to remotely envision themselves (and hence anyone else) having a sense of pride in possessing the freedom to vote or live in a free country. They are so enmeshed in their own viewpoint that they are being honest when they look completely dumbfounded that others have emotional reactions that are so foreign to their (the liberal's) experience of life. They are still clueless (and hopefully will remain so).

me too.....I just saw some of you ladies trashing her way past the trash point the other day.....I agree Peggy was way off on her inaugeral comments but considering that she almost always, in fact I have never heard her say anything bad about the Repubs, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Just was wondering if you could cut her some slack some day......LOL.....i think she has earned it, especially after writing that great speech for Reagan on the D-Day celebration

Ron doesn't care. He thinks he'll get a talk show out of it. But his father, may he rest in peace, probably does a 365-er every time little (very little) Ron opens his really big, idiot mouth.

Brit was talking about the annual anchorboy luncheon. Every SOTU speech day the President and his press guy host all the big news anchors for lunch.
Brit and Chris Wallace were invited representing FNC. Brit and Chris were reporting that Rather and Bush were cordial. In fact President Bush asked Dan if he was retiring to Texas(lol)
I posted the seating chart of this shindig last year. It was pretty funny. You could tell the likability of the anchor to his assigned seating. If I remember correctly, Brit and Brokaw were at each side of the President. The far end of the table was CNN. I think Rather and Jennings were assigned to the kiddie table in the next room. I'll see if I can dig up the link.

I was looking for Teddy, too. I did not see him. Perhaps he was home, punching up his next terrorist-friendly rant.

I flip channels all the time. But EVERY TIME I stop on a channel with Ron Reagan on the panel, he's talking about STEM CELLS.
Give it a freaking rest, Ron!

Iraq is one area where he has at least remained consistent, even continuing to criticize idiot Dem positions after he was out of the primaries. Too bad he doesn't do it more often or publicly...I've noticed that he is less of a Sunday AM talk show favorite these days.

Hannity just got a statement from Sen Nelson of Nebraska that on principle, he was not opposed to private savings account....depends on the numbers and whether it would add to the deficit....
Reid doesn't have the strong hand that he claims!

I honestly can't say the same about Hannity.
Hannity has really improved on TV in recent months.
Hannity isn't a dummy. You can't do what he does and be stupid.
