STATE OF THE UNION -- 2005 [Live Thread]
2/2/05

Posted on 02/02/2005 3:43:44 PM PST by Timeout

The pre-spin: Bush will spend about 1/2 the speech on foreign policy, 1/2 on domestic, with heavy emphasis on Social Security reform. It's said he will provide a detailed tutorial on the SS system and its problems with a few details on his personal accounts proposal.

Laura's guests are said to be an Afghan voter and an Iraqi voter (too bad there's no Ukrainian wearing an orange hat!).

Should we start a drinking game on how many times the pool camera swings to Hillary? Hmmm. Probably not...it would likely hamper out typing ability.

Word on the blogs has it that the closing part of the speech is a hum-dinger. Set your VCR's.

Report here on outrageous MediaCrat spin before AND after the SOTU. Pictures and screen caps welcome.

That's rich coming from the son that used the death of his father to gain an invitation to their convention.

...Isn't it time for the Dims to give us a timeline for getting our troops out of KOSOVO?!...

I think I'll write my reps - feinstein, woolsey and boxer -tomorrow and ask that question. Perhaps others will join me? We can then start a thread with their answers.

Nothing will ever get cut in Washington, I've never see and will probably never see a fiscal year in which the Feds spend less than they take in total revenue. 4% spending increase - the same as Arnold's budget in California - will have the Democrats hitting the roof. As far as they're concerned, if its not a double digit increase, its a "cut." And Bush still gets the blame for phantom reductions in spending levels. Fiscal restraint, my ass.

"Ron was saying that the President used the family that lost their son,and the Iraqi lady to gain favor for his Social Security plan!"

Which agains proves my point that he is a total idiot.

Matthews was willing to enertain the idea that there was some prior instructions given to the Iraqi woman.

He speculated that it may have been done to endear more of the public to Bush's SS reform.

Matthews is an idiot.

You spoke too soon.

He and Ron Reagan just discussed whether somebody at the White House "staged" that entire scene with the Iraqi woman hugging the mother.

Hilary's lipstick looks like it was applied after imbibing four or five highballs, or perhaps it'd be better to just say drinks.

Well, after Chrissy and Ronnie said the hug in the both between the Iraqi woman and the mother of the fallen soldier was a "set up", I turned it. That really pi$$ed me off.

Yes, Chris questioned the blue ink at first...he saw it as dangerous and something that might make people hold back. I don't mean to overanalyze him...but I think that was before he opened his eyes and saw what that election meant.

By the end of the day, he was on board and thought the blue fingers were magnificent.

I think he may be reconsidering how far he and the Dems have gotten from true "liberal" values.
