The Free Republic W2 Inaugural Ball was a wonderful, but exhausting time. I'm still wiped out. But, I know folks are waiting for pics and stories. I'll add my observations later, but I wanted to share one thing before I head back to the hotel to see 'Governor' Robinson and his family off.
We received a phone call from the White House yesterday. The Office of Presidential Scheduling called to pass along President Bush's regrets for not being able to attend our ball (we had mailed a formal invitation to him and his family.) We were told, "He hopes it went well."
As it turns out, the ball went really well after a late start.
Governor Huckabee and Capitol Offense rocked the house well past midnight. Impressionist Billy Finch did a wonderful job as Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful. Sauropod's video presentaion was stunning. The speeches by the Iraqis were very moving. WMAL's Michael Graham did a great job opening the show. Nick Danger was excellent emceeing the Eagle Awards. The St. John's College High School JROTC were magnificent presenting the colors. Richard Poe was busy all night signing copies of Hillary's Secret War. Seeking the Truth and his wife, Darlie, couldn't take a break--their 0Cents.com merchandise was very popular.
Thanks to all for their hard work making sure the ball went so well. And a special thanks to the active duty service members from Walter Reed and the Pentagon, as well as the veterans, who accepted our invitations as honored guests to the ball.
Please post your reports and photos or links here. I know alot of folks are traveling home, so check back over the next few day as folks check back in on FR.
Wonderful to see you, too, and let me say publicly that you did a fantastic job on the video. And on such short notice - I know how much time it takes!
Looks like we scrammed outta Dodge just in time, though! Looks a little snowy and blowy. :-)
How was the rest of your time in DC?
Thanks, Angelwood.
I wondered if anyone noticed since I did it just before the ball started. I had planned some games and paper airplanes etc., but everyone seemed happy and I did not want to destroy the calm!
I got a wonderful picture of Sam showing Nathan and Erin how to play his gameboy...missed the chance to get the gang playing Old Maid...but it was cute too.
There's no question in my mind; it was definitely you, because you are the first one I thought of when the guy mentioned it (around 10:30 a.m.). At first I thought, no it couldn't be, but now that I read your post, I know it was you they were speaking of.
Nice family except for the old guy with the beard.
My friend said to be sure you knew I travel with Inspector Romeo, my small Rat Terrier!!
I often protest on my Causeway alone. Once it was in a dust cap, apron, and huge broom...sign said "Going to Washington to help SWEEP OUT THE TRASH". As you can guess it was just before Clinton Vacated the Oval Office.
Go with your sign and join any group. Keep it a message they would approve of and put Free Republic.com at the bottom in dark letters. (photo's and the press will pick it up better) Most will welcome us and ask about the group and sometimes even become one of us!
Old? I don't know what pic you were looking at :-)
How much snow so far?
Thank you so much. I love her dearly and she makes all my Freeping possible.
How I wish I had seen you!
I brought your souvenir home so could mail it ??
Need an address by freepmail!

Wish I met you! Will send you freepmail. Thank You!
Just checking in late tonight...I'll watch for it!
Thanks for sending the pics.

""....A few blocks down the parade route, other demonstrators, these of a conservative mind, rallied in support of the president in an event organized by the D.C. chapter of Free Republic, a banner reading "God Bless W And Our Troops" attached to the barricades. ""
All the usual suspects have mugshots on this thread...
You're Welcome :-)

Excellent pics, thanks for sharing.
Thanks, David! I also got to meet Jerome Corsi (FReeper "Interesting Times," who was awarded the Freeper of the Year award. Very nice gentleman!
BTW, the flight out of the Bay Area was somewhat grim, but the flights out of Texas were much cheerier!
