The Free Republic W2 Inaugural Ball was a wonderful, but exhausting time. I'm still wiped out. But, I know folks are waiting for pics and stories. I'll add my observations later, but I wanted to share one thing before I head back to the hotel to see 'Governor' Robinson and his family off.
We received a phone call from the White House yesterday. The Office of Presidential Scheduling called to pass along President Bush's regrets for not being able to attend our ball (we had mailed a formal invitation to him and his family.) We were told, "He hopes it went well."
As it turns out, the ball went really well after a late start.
Governor Huckabee and Capitol Offense rocked the house well past midnight. Impressionist Billy Finch did a wonderful job as Ray Charles singing America the Beautiful. Sauropod's video presentaion was stunning. The speeches by the Iraqis were very moving. WMAL's Michael Graham did a great job opening the show. Nick Danger was excellent emceeing the Eagle Awards. The St. John's College High School JROTC were magnificent presenting the colors. Richard Poe was busy all night signing copies of Hillary's Secret War. Seeking the Truth and his wife, Darlie, couldn't take a break--their 0Cents.com merchandise was very popular.
Thanks to all for their hard work making sure the ball went so well. And a special thanks to the active duty service members from Walter Reed and the Pentagon, as well as the veterans, who accepted our invitations as honored guests to the ball.
Please post your reports and photos or links here. I know alot of folks are traveling home, so check back over the next few day as folks check back in on FR.
That's a really cute gif. :-)
I'll want a copy. ;-) From both IBs.
Sorry to report Gigantor....not one of your photos show up.
Thank you for your attempt, though to post them.
Thanks for the pictures. I had the best time of my life and met so many wonderful, and may I say not only intelligent but darn good looking Freepers. Kristinn deserves a big round of applause for all the work he put into this event. Job well done.
Hey HeyLady!!! Hubby and I had a great time too. It was so good meeting you and Jim and all our other new FRiends! Can't wait till the next Ball or FReeper event.
How did your interview at the parade go? Did you see the story? What newspaper/magazine was that reporter from?
We thoroughly enjoyed the last FReeper inaugural ball............and who'd have guessed that we wouldn't be able to make this one due to child care issues for our 3 year old for this one (we're in our late 40's)????
Oh well........hated like hell to miss it, and hope all had as wonderful a time as we did four years ago. God bless, all.

WARNING: Long load time.
"How did your interview at the parade go? Did you see the story"
The interviewer was from the Washington Post. Unfortunately I never had the time to get the paper before I left. If anyone knows how I can get a copy of the Post from Friday I would appreciate it.
Pinging some DC FReepers for help. FReeper HeyLady was interviewed during the parade. Any of y'all see the story?
Now I can get back to reading everybody else's reports and comments.
Hi heylady,
We are Dorothy and Joe from Virginia (tirednvirginia and tirednvirginia2). We enjoyed meeting and dining with you.
The ball was wonderful but unfortunately my husband's feet starting hurting around 10:00 p.m. after a long day of walking and standing. We didn't get that much dancing in after that.
I look forward to hearing about your interview.
Yes it was also my husbands feet that kept us from kicking it up. I knew he'd had all he could take.
The problem is likely at your computer because the photos display here.
Temporarily, turn off your firewall (Zone Alarm or other) and the photos will probably show up.
Thank you Bill.
I really enjoyed this thread this afternoon.
It looks like a good time was had by all.
Glad things went well. Wish I could have been there. Y'all done good. :)

Awesome photos, Jen! Wish I would have met you at the Ball!
