Yankee or Dixie? Take the Quiz
Yankee or Dixie ^
Posted on 01/14/2005 11:10:39 AM PST by Hillary's Lovely Legs
Yankee or Dixie? Check on your dialect and see if you might have crossed over to the "other side"! Simply click on the correct answer. As you go, the quiz will automatically interpret each answer to show you what your answer implies about you. When you are done, press Compute My Score. Your score will be calculated as a percentage: 0% is pure Yankee and 100% is pure Dixie.
- Do not change your answer during the test as it will ruin the score. You may do this after scoring is calculated to see the other answers.
- If you make a mistake, hit Clear below to restart the test!
- I regret that I do not have time to entertain discussions about this test or negotiate changes. It is provided strictly as-is and for entertainment purposes only.
- Be aware that television entertainment has a lot of northern dialect in it. This will have more of an influence on you than you expect.
- This test is based on results from the Harvard Computer Society Dialect Survey of 30788 respondents.

Why would anyone want to throw toilet paper on someone's house anyway...must be a southern thing.
I wouldn't try it in Brooklyn, Dave, but it is a hoot during High School football season in Texas...an almost sacred season!

I scored 46% Yankee just like you did. And I'm from MI too. I thought being a Yooper, that I'd of scored a higher Yankee, since some people think we sound Canadian up here.

43%, yankee, but just barely.
How do you pronounce Auto?
Yankee----Otto (one syllable).
Dixie-----Aught-toe (two syllables).

" I-40 - always an adventure." I wonder what the life expectancy is for people who have to routinely travel between Winston and G'boro on 40? LOL

48% - barely Southern?
I am a Yankee born,
A Yankee bred, and
When I die I'll be
A Yankee dead.

It took a few more years than suspected but the South did rise again. :-}

Ya know, sw, there really wasn't any point in us taking that test. We already KNEW!
I would have replaced some of the questions with stuff like:
Do you put milk on your grits?
Do you own at least one Confederate battle flag?
Do Sunday's and fried chicken kind of go together?
Do you have a tendency to fondle your guns?
Do you drive a pickup, especially a four wheel drive pickup?
Do you consider the magnolia to be one of the prettiest trees?
On country roads do you wave at everyone you pass?
The answers to questions like this will remove all doubt.

Do you put milk on your grits? What kind of question is that? Of course not.
Do you own at least one Confederate battle flag? Ashamed to admit I don't.
Do Sunday's and fried chicken kind of go together? Not anymore but when I was growing up it was generally true.
Do you have a tendency to fondle your guns? Well I shoot them a lot.
Do you drive a pickup, especially a four wheel drive pickup? Yes, a 1976 Ford F-100 which my Daddy bought new.
Do you consider the magnolia to be one of the prettiest trees? It sure is, especially when the flowers are blooming.
On country roads do you wave at everyone you pass? Yes, except sometimes I just nod.
