'SOCKS DOCS' JURY GRILLS CLINTON CRONY
New York Post ^ | 1/12/05 | IAN BISHOP and DEBORAH ORIN

Posted on 01/11/2005 11:41:41 PM PST by kattracks

Former Clinton White House Mr. Fix-It Bruce Lindsey emerged tight-lipped yesterday after testifying before a federal grand jury probing whether top-secret documents were illegally removed from the National Archives.

The grand jury probe, reported exclusively in The Post Tuesday, is digging into why another former Bill Clinton aide, Sandy Berger, sneaked the national security documents out of the Archives — possibly in his socks.

Lindsey denied any inside knowledge about Berger's sticky fingers.

"All I know is what he [Berger] said. He made a public statement," said Lindsey, Clinton's deputy White House counsel, after testifying under oath yesterday.

Berger admits walking off with 40 to 50 top-secret documents from the archives, but claims it was an "honest mistake" while vetting documents for the 9/11 commission.

Berger has admitted destroying some documents — he says by mistake.

Lindsey declined comment on what he told the grand jury, but denied reports that he met with Berger in New York for crisis control as the scandal erupted last summer.

[snip]

Among the documents Berger lifted were multiple drafts of a report assessing the 2000 millennium threat that is said to conclude that only luck prevented a terrorist attack then.

That conflicts with Berger's sworn testimony to the commission — he claimed "we thwarted" millennium attacks by being vigilant, not lucky.

Oh, gosh, thanks for highlighting that part. See the post I just made about Berger's visits.

Why, yes indeed, he did! And it was for a lunch with someone who was dealing with higher education legislation, because of his new job as president of a university.

Like he couldn't have postponed the lunch. If you ask me, since he couldn't grandstand in public he wasn't interested in what the President had to say.

Well, some of us opined that Berger wasn't the biggest fish to fry and perhaps the pressure was being put on him to explain who collaborated in this scheme and who did he share this information with (I'm sure you have an idea of the names I'm thinking of...).

A not so uncommon practice to use a high security tag in government to cover up mistakes, incompetence, malfeasance, or as I suspect, treasonous acts against U.S. national security.

And then a doofus like Berger comes along and blows their cover by stupidly stuffing the docs in his socs.

"his official said an Archives employee called former White House deputy counsel Bruce Lindsey...."

When they should have called in the cops, imho.

If all this is Dubya's fault, I gotta give him a lot more credit than before...

Hey, we're talking about a man who has the ability to summon hurricanes at will. Don't misunderestimate!

Yes, as I mentioned in an earlier post, both Lee Hamilton and Bob Kerrey left the much anticipated and ballyhooed Bush/Cheney meeting...early!

"Berger admits walking off with 40 to 50 top-secret documents from the archives, but claims it was an "honest mistake" while vetting documents for the 9/11 commission."

That is a lie!

One doesn't just happen to get around the sign-in and sign-out processes for handling classified.

He was simply taking docs that made Billary look bad and everyone with a brain knows it.

Spring 1998, June 1999, December 1999, and August 2000. Each time, Mr. Berger was an obstacle to action

Remember that CIA dude that secretly wrote that book and the media was slamming Bush for not doing anything about Bin Ladin on several different occasions?

I never knew how to take that guy because I do think he was just trying to get his 15 minutes of fame and he never really corrected the MSM (chrissy matthews)

Also the media never mentions that he also wrote a book about Clinton

And the media never mentioned that those occasions to get Bin Laden occurred BEFORE Bush become President

Another book comes to mind that also mentions Sandy Pants in it was "Dereliction of Duty" written by Robert Patterson

I've gone through everything I have, Googled and have not come up with the date on the draft that was leaked to Sean Hannity in Nov. '03.

I have however run across some interesting tidbits regarding John D. Rockefeller and Statand Oil (http://www.bilderberg.org/whatafel.htm ), Kerry's comments about meeting with foreign leaders during the primaries (here: http://brainstorming.typepad.com/brainstorming/2004/03/kerry_and_the_l.html --scroll down--)

Yesterday, F/R poster Liz made mention of Berger's affiliation with an Oil company (name escapes me now) in Syria that wants to get into Iraq. I then naturally think of Kerry's recent visit to Syria, and wonder why? A little pow wow about WMD exchange for deals in Iraq? Is this one reason why Berger was chosen by Kerry to be his NSA as well?? Heinze connections.. blah blah blah.. (Just a lot of personal rambling there, no real substance to offer to this thread, just curious connections)

I was expecting the Dems to leak how Sandy Berger broke down under questioning, etc.

If there are no leaks like that it might really be serious.

Thanks. What we're looking for is the date the memo was actually composed (not released to Hannity/media).

Bet Bruce Lindsey is fit to be tied at Berger for involving him or did Lindsey order Berger to get the documents?

This is getting better and better!

I can only imagine the MSM handling of this if Berger were a Republican, alas, a Christian....

We could bet that the New York Times would not be leaving the headlines solely to the New York Post.

"All I know is what he [Berger] said. He made a public statement," said Lindsey

A flat out lie; he knows EVERYTHING.

And he knows what was in those reports, word for word.
