Indian scientists recently found a scientific method of predicting earthquakes quite accurately. The great quake of Sumatra along Andaman fault line on December 26th, could have been predicted if the world would have taken these scientists seriously.
If this theory is true, we are in for many mega earthquakes soon. When two or more planets, moon and earth and sun come in one line, these mega earthquakes happen. The sun influences the rotation of earth. Now imagine you are in a train or bus. If all on a sudden the driver pushes the brake, you tend to move forward in a jerk. Exactly same thing happens when two or more planets line up with earth and pulls from the other side. The tectonic pressures built up get released in specific points of epicenter.
In this case Jupiter, Venus, Moon, Earth, Sun came in one line and the scientists predicted on the dot the earthquake. Unfortunately the world did not take then seriously enough.
It is a fascinating theory and according to the inventors in is correct 99% times in the last 100 years. The ancient Mayans, Egyptians, Chinese and Indians all used to get very concerned on planetary alignments because something catastrophic happened.
The Indian scientists were predicting many earthquake around India.
Here is the full text of their theory:
PLANETARY CONFIGURATION: IMPLICATIONS FOR EARTHQUAKE PREDICTION

Earthquakes really pose little direct danger to a person. But due to earthquakes there are some effects like ground shaking, ground displacement, liquefaction, flooding (tsunami), and fire which are hazardous to human beings. The hazards mentioned above are avoidable if prediction can be made early, which would enable their mitigation, reduce damage to life and property drastically and facilitate precautionary measures by government and NGOs. Though there have been several attempts at earthquake prediction from different perspectives, this attempt aims at establishing planetary configurations as a definitive means of earthquake prediction. Also this study aims to establish the occurrence of earthquake precursors like fore shocks and change in ground water level with respect to planetary configurations.
When two or more than two planets, Sun and Moon are aligned more or less in line (0o or 180o) with the Earth, then the Earth would be caught in the middle of a huge gravity struggle between the Sun and the planets. The gravitational stresses would change the speed of the Earth in its orbit. When the speed of rotation of the earth changes the tectonic plate motion also gets affected, just as people collide with each other when the bus driver suddenly applies the brakes. The total angular momentum of planets involving in earthquake triggering mechanism can be calculated and the total force acting at the epicenter in the opposite direction to the rotation of the earth can also be determined. At the epicenter, the speed of rotation of the earth can be calculated with the help of available software. So the planetary forces acting in the opposite direction to the rotation of earth act as a triggering mechanism for the accumulated stress at faults and plate boundaries, to be released abruptly. This does not, however, mean that earthquakes will occur at all edges of the plate boundaries.
In order to trigger an earthquake in one particular place, two conditions should be satisfied. They are a) distance of epicenter from the planet position and b) Direction of force acting at the possible epicenter. From the analysis of Most significant earthquakes over past 100 years, it is inferred that the latitude, longitude and magnitude of the tremor is related to the distance from the planet and direction of planetary forces acting at any particular point. So the planetary positions can be used to predict the earthquakes in long term prospect and then by correlating the planetary positions and their forces with geology of that area, earthquakes can be predicted with fair accuracy with regard to latitude, longitude and magnitude at least a month before.
But don't worry - EQs don't kill people (just watch out for the ground shaking).
"When two or more than two planets, Sun and Moon are aligned more or less in line (0o or 180o) with the Earth, then the Earth would be caught in the middle of a huge gravity struggle between the Sun and the planets"
Except that compared to the Sun, the other planets have almost 0 gravity. It doesn't matter what part of their orbit a planet is in, compared to the Sun it is nothing.
As for the Moon, this last Full Moon (if the Moon's phase makes a difference to the Moon's gravity) the Moon was at Apogee, the farthest point from the earth the Moon can be. The Moon had the least amount of gravitational effect that it can have on the Earth in its orbit. The Earth on the other hand is approaching Perihelion, its closest approach to the Sun. If anything astronmical is going to do something to the earth with its gravity, its the Sun or the Moon. Maybe if it was perihelion and perigee then I would believe more that Tidal forces had something to do with this. But not now.
These guys are blowing smoke.
There has been a proven correlation between Hurricanes and earthquakes (See the Earthquake that hit Grand Caymans just this last Summer as a hurricane was hitting it).
So, how does all this tectonic activity relate to global warming?
Well, the Earth is about to collide with celestial axis...
On the 26th (Full Moon), Venus was in the vicinity of the Sun as seen from Earth (then again, it's always "close" to the Sun), but Jupiter was nowhere in line with the Moon/Sun.
If these "scientists" can't get the basic facts straight, it doesn't lend much credence to their so-called theory...
Well, for what its worth; Yes. This student (looking for grant money) published exactly what is shown within post #1, on or before June 20, 2004 at:

One success in a sea of earthquakes. Earthquakes occur every day somewhere on earth. How do they match up to the Venkatanathan earthquake prediction formula?
He may have been it right Dec 26th, but what of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami? Australian earthquake? Northridge? Alaska '64? New Madrid 1811?
The likelihood that this man and his formula can predict one earthquake with certainty is a statistical probability. The likelihood that this man and his formula can predict with certainty every new earthquake based on his formula is very different. This man's formula is not scientific truth. His formula is not even a theory based on scientific research 101.
IMO, the guy got lucky. Let's investigate every daily earthquake worldwide. See if his case holds up under intense scrutiny.
Let's assume that everything has a reason why it is or is not. What would be the mechanisms linking hurricanes and earthquakes?
I am not the expert here, I have a friend who is, so I am gonna do the best I can and if I when I can get more info I will.
The way I understand it has to do with the changing pressure of the water on top of fault lines. Hurricanes vaccumn up large chuncks of water, reducing the pressure on the fault, allowing slippage.
I will write my friend and ask for a better explanation. Please be patient and I will do what I can.
This is interesting. We are probably unaware of many of the dynamic effects of the atmosphere, probably just for lack of looking.
This is what my friend said. Note the last sentence of his first paragraph about the lunar tides and phases. That is new to me, and, if he says it, it must be true. He is an expert on these things...check out www.methaz.com.
"Hurricanes can trigger earthquakes in two ways: the storm surge
(caused by reduced atmospheric pressure and, mainly, the action of the
wind piling up water) can cause an increase in the weight of water
pressing on a fault. A second mechanism is water from surge or rain
infiltrating the fault, lubricating it and making rupture more likely.
There have been a few studies showing this correlation, but it is a weak
one. The fault has to be pretty close to trigger anyway. The phase of
the moon and lunar tides are also weakly correlated.
A tsunami is caused by an earthquake (usually - can also be caused by
volcanic explosion, sediment slumping, or impact event). Since pressure
is already relieved on the fault, another big rupture is unlikely to be
caused by the resulting disruption of water weight distribution.
Triggering other faults is possible, but I don't know of any studies
actually showing such a correlation."
Well there you have it. I got it backwards and beg forgiveness. Check out his site, specially his SatBlog.
Has there been a lot of rain in California lately? That would put some extra weight on the network of faults if so.
This topic was posted , thanks NYer.

Veddy intedesting!
So, animals aren’t the only ones who can predict quakes — planets want to get into the act!
‘Face

Animals are probably the best at stuff, just a language barrier.

I laughed really hard at that the first time I saw it...when I was a very short person and the Little Rascals were Saturday TV Fare along with Froggie the Gremlin.
Interesting costumes, though!
Heh, The Little Rascals...
Yeah, I have some of their movies! Seriesly!
