The high-resolution QuickBird satellite images of the tsunami impact on Sri Lanka are just a few of the images on the Digital Globe web site that made me stop and say "Wow!" For example, check out the images on the links below:

That pic is really horrifying ... and it's going to be a MAJOR public health problem for the survivors.

I recently visited Machu Picchu....It is simply breathtaking - at over 14,000 feet in elevation it can be literally breathtaking.

Thanks Lando, I'll add it to the catalog, but not ping the list. :') That link to the MP image will have to be added to the various MP topics on GGG. (': Please FREEPMAIL me if you want on, off, or alter the "Gods, Graves, Glyphs" PING list --

I recently visited Machu Picchu.
I envy you. Peru is second on my list of places I'd love to visit-- after Australia.

Machu Picchu is definately on my short list of places in South America I'd really love to see!
I also want to see:
1) Angel Falls in Southeastern Venezuela
2) Iguaçú Falls at the border of Brazil and Argentina

Wasn't the B-57 originally a RAF bird; English Electric 'Canberra' I think?

The "Boneyard" pic contains a pair of aircraft that were seldom seen together -- if at all. They are in the single row of left-facing aircraft --near the bottom.
The eighth aircraft up from the bottom is a B-57 Canberra, a British twin-jet medium/light bomber. The plane immediately below it (#7 from the bottom) is a rare -- and once highly classified -- RB57-F reconnaissance ("spy") plane.
The RB-57F is a radical modification of the B-57. The wings were extended to approximately double-length, and the original engines were replaced with huge turbofans. The last time I checked, the actual operating ceiling of the RB-57F was classified -- but let's just say that it gave the U-2 a run for its money...while carrying a much larger payload.
There weren't very many of the "stretched" RB-57 F (and G) models built -- but I expect their lifetimes included some awfully interesting missions! At any rate, this is the first photo I've seen that clearly shows how radically the old B-57 was modified to perform its "spook" role...
Thanks for the links!

It was ... USAF used them for low-level bombing early on in Viet Nam ... they got shot up pretty badly.

Are there links to other photos and videos of the tsumanmi devastation? I like to collect photo's to keep. Seems like over time, many of the early photos are lost or censored. For example, I have 600+ photo's that I saved in the days after 9-11. Now the media won't show them anymore. Anyway, if someone has links, please post. Thanks.....

The Mecca image is the first time I have ever been able to make out individual people on a satellite image (you have to zoom in).
