It's a layered piece of likely sedimentary rock (awfully interesting in and of itself) that's been tilted vertically. But not wood.

It looks pretty odd to me, too. It looks like a big piece of wood alright. I wonder what the heck it is. Didn't they post any kind of description of the photo?
