12/25/04 | lowbridge

Posted on 12/25/2004 7:57:48 PM PST by lowbridge

This thread is for those who got diddly, nada, zilch, zip, zero Christmas Presents this year (or any other year). Come and commiserate. You're among friends here.

And to those of you who offer the beautiful homily, "It's better to give than receive", please take the time to have a nice tall glass of shaddup.

Christmas is not about what one gets, it's about what we can do do alleviate need. As an orphan/familyless person/never maried I look on it as a challenge to help even while I need help myself. It can't be argued that if everyone had that attitude there would be far less need going on.

I'm proud to be an American who gives what he can without regard for tax breaks or social standing. Giving should come from the heart, not an accountant's advice. Accountants would only point out how I can't afford such "extravagances".

BTW, I hear this has ben a rough year for the Salvation Army and encourage everyone to drop a dollar in their kettle when you see them. Their work alleviates suffering and gets people back on track.

You may have hit the nail (pill?) on the head. Pain meds will do strange things to you.

Bummer. I hope it was just a reaction to eating all that tinsel.

Does NOT getting a crummy gift count as a gift?

No. Among the crummy gifts I got in Christmases past: A pair of socks (and only a pair of socks) that were a couple of sizes too small. Another Christmas: a soap and a sponge (another gift that was my only gift for that particular Christmas). But I cherished those gifts because at least someone out there in this cruel world gave a thought as to giving me something and saw it through.

On Monday before the election I was at the parish office and the priest wasn't in. They told me he was horribly sick and I was kind of worried about him. I saw him next on Wednesday and he was absolutely fine and I said, "I thought you were horribly sick." He said, "I was but when Bush won I was miraculously healed."

Bush winning re-election really was a gift I will cherish forever. I was so afraid that the MSM would manage to get Skerry elected.

The hubby and I got nothing, except the wonderful gift go being able to use the money we normally spend on gifts for one another on gifts for the Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

God knows they need the spirit of Christmas more than any of us living in the lap of luxury here in the USA.

Thanks to www.anysoldier.com, we had the BEST Christmas ever. God Bless our Troops!

If you were one of my neighbors, you would have gotten breads (banana and pumpkin this year, and cookies. Homemade) Since I don't know where you live, visualize that you did.

I have done that for years. I don't know my neighbors, but always have, no matter where I lived. That is what my brothers and sisters get too.

A grab bag might be neat! each freeper draws one nickname, and has to buy for that person.
