Laura inaugurates a trend (Laura Bush's Inaugural Dress to be "Ice Blue")
New York Daily News ^ | 12-21-04 | Rush/Mulloy

Laura Bush is getting another Oscar.

Designer Oscar de la Renta, who outfitted the First Lady for her big nights at the Republican convention and the Kennedy Center Honors, will dress her for the inauguration.

Her office confirms the incredibly important news that the gown will be ice blue.

Meanwhile, daughters Jenna and Barbara have chosen the younger, edgier design team of Badgely Mischka.

"They want slinky and sexy," a spy tells us. "The dresses are going to be figure-hugging with slits and sequins and decolletage."

All of the ladies will be equipped with matching coats - to protect them as they bounce around from ball to ball.

Not to worry, Friend of Jeb'sFan ... the "S" had nothing to do with the "P" ...

I was holding my breath waiting to see if she'd mention FR, but you know if she's surfing those sites, she's been here.

She was great and I must say, Campbell Brown actually seemed a little impressed with Mrs. Cheney's accomplishments and she also appeared to respect what she was saying.

Oh c'mon guy ... what's this "we" business. I'm not knocking the Bush twins as two-baggers by any means but the notion that they are drool material -- particularly for "conservative" adult FReeper males -- is not just absurd, it's kinda creepy.

---At what age level are Freeper males allowed to drool, exactly? The twins aren't jailbait. Do men have to wait until women get their Ph.D.'s before we're officially allowed to ogle and leer? Or is that just never acceptable, and we're supposed to pretend that we love Ann Coulter only for her personality?

... but maybe not quite as creepy as FReeper chickies going ga-ga over Dick Cheney. (Damn, why didn't I bookmark Marple's post!)

---Anyone who's seen that accidental photo of Big Dick Cheney knows why some of them do. And some of them just appreciate the fact that he's an honest guy. Lynne Cheney must.

It's not I who said I was a "better man" for having met with the Log Cabin Republicans.

---I'm sorry, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. What or who are you talking about?

Strange we don't see more evidence of our Log Cabin brethren on FR. Perhaps S_______, P______, R________________, T_________, et al. yet prefer the closet to coming out on First Lady fashion threads. =)

---Well, maybe they're busy on the Cheney threads. :)

=== don't women enjoy wearing styles that are attractive and flattering

You would think. Doesn't seem to be the case as a rule.

I love modest too. I sew my own costumes for Carnival ... high costume and it's a real wonderful excuse to enjoy a style of dress and whimsy and grandeur that can be drop-dead stunning without (risking, even) letting it all hang out.

Save for a few last minute jobs which I safety-pinned onto myself as I swagged ... I've never worn a costume -- or dress -- out in public I didn't put through its paces first.

That's the thing about poise. I'm a Tex-Okie. I think you can still be quite spirited and spontaneous without sacrificing the decorum necessary to carry off a strapless dress like the statuesque, aloof beauties for whom such clothes were Designed.

Well, this is gonna be a hoot, I'm sure, but I think men should do their ogling and drooling at construction sites, bars, smokers or strip clubs if they must.

I think it's unmanly, actually, for everyone to pretend they're Italian in this respect such that men's heads are going to turn, grunting like boars toward a feed trough, any time a nice set of haunches walks by.

It makes you look "easy" ... and that's not a good thing where men are concerned even if it's Da Bomb where all the Future Wife Material's concerned these days.

=== we're supposed to pretend that we love Ann Coulter only for her personality?

Aaaahhhhggghhkkk ... now you're killing me.

I guess she'll do where our Log Cabin presence is concerned ... shrill catty queen with hips like a Boy Scout.

The last thing I want is a bunch of perverts leering over the first lady. That privilege is for her husband.

Mmmmm. Excellent point. Never thought of it that way. I see what you mean, having just been unable to avoid a Britney spot (uh, cleavage spilling waaaay out) on VH1.

Not being a guy, I am not given to leering, but the guy comics on this VH1 program clearly show that you are right, given the opportunity guys will leer and comment, they did, about Ms. Spears.

Is "ice blue" the same color that was once known as "Alice blue"? If so, that's a good Republican color. Alice was Alice Roosevelt, Theodore's daughter.

But is so much fun to occasionally get dressed up.

I agree 100 percent. Was trying to make the point that ladies don't all go for looking nice just to impress / attract men all the time. ;-)

Blue has been misused in those maps. Blue signifies loyalty.

I read somewhere, that it was the MSM who started the red-vs-blue state thing. At first they were going to call the Dem states red, but decided that wouldn't do because the color is so closely associated with Communism, so they gave the Republicans the 'red' color.

That is NOT ice blue.It may be the name of the timer, but the color is most assuredly NOT "ice blue". Ice blue is an extremely pale shade of blue;one far lighter and without a hint of yellow or green in it.Closer to a dove grey, than the neon turquoise you seem to imagine is ice blue.
