Laura Bush is getting another Oscar.
Designer Oscar de la Renta, who outfitted the First Lady for her big nights at the Republican convention and the Kennedy Center Honors, will dress her for the inauguration.
Her office confirms the incredibly important news that the gown will be ice blue.
Meanwhile, daughters Jenna and Barbara have chosen the younger, edgier design team of Badgely Mischka.
"They want slinky and sexy," a spy tells us. "The dresses are going to be figure-hugging with slits and sequins and decolletage."
All of the ladies will be equipped with matching coats - to protect them as they bounce around from ball to ball.

My son is also 13, but I don't think he's interested in girls yet--LOL! My son also considers me old, and delights in pointing out I'm "almost 40 years old." But . . . today I was buying wine coolers and I GOT CARDED!!!! I looked around for the "we card anyone who looks under the age of 30" but there wasn't one! I asked the checker how old she thought I looked and she said, "Aobut 20!" That sure made my day . . . I asked her if went back and bought some more, if she'd card me again--lol!
I was making (an evidently poor attempt at) a joke. I didn't REALLY think that's what her fans meant when they called her "earthy".

Oh, since I'm on this thread and we're speaking about ladies, an interview Campbell Brown did with Lynne Cheney is airing on Hardball and she just said she likes to read blogs and the internet and mentioned Hugh Hewitt, Powerline, Instapundit and said she likes Real Clear Politics though didn't think that fell in the blog category.

One of those odd coincidences that happen sometimes...I happened to be reading your post as Lynne Cheney (interview airing on MSNBC) mentioned the "Wardrobe Malfunction" (my comment: ack) and how it "took tv where it ought not go".

It's probably indicative of how rather limp is my obsession with the Bush Family but first I heard of the daughter's malfunction was on this thread.
What's sad here is that a young woman groomed to the nines and as schooled at poise and appearance as any Texas Deb should lend legitimacy to the freakish "costume malfunction" by having one of her own at such a state occasion.
Personally, after all the hue and cry about our "moral" victory for Virtue at the polls last month, it's still a little creepy for me to hear that the twins are anxious to wear clothese which -- to date -- they haven't Quite pulled off ... but close.
Call me crazy but I like to see women wearing gloves and real glamor at a state occasion ... particularly given the fact it's their Father's Office Party.
That would show real counter-cultural moxie in a world where formhugging, slit skirt, f'me-pump Washingtonienne's are a dime a dozen.

It was so clear that the twins were the ones who wanted to wear slinky dresses, and who didn't at their age (?) that I can only assume that most of the freepers who have mis-understood this issue have done so deliberately.
Oh...when I think "Wardrobe Malfunction" I think of the Janet Jackson disgraceful and deviant display (but now that I take a moment, I realize as I read your words you were referring to pictures posted earlier on the thread while Lynne Cheney was referencing the Jackson debacle).
The Bush daughter business I heard about when it happened (or shortly after) and it is something that was truly nothing and was very innocent. It's not like strapless dresses are new or considered that daring. I wore one once, but my bony shoulders don't make them the most flattering choice for me in particular. But that's the point; don't women enjoy wearing styles that are attractive and flattering? I think so.
I am not worried that the twins will look tacky. The comments describing what they'll wear comes from a "spy". As to your suggestion of gloves, etc. Interesting and I see your point on the statement it would make. I like modest, myself.

It's not I who said I was a "better man" for having met with the Log Cabin Republicans. Strange we don't see more evidence of our Log Cabin brethren on FR. Perhaps S_______, P______, R________________, T_________, et al. yet prefer the closet to coming out on First Lady fashion threads. =)
