HIP-HOP FLOPS

A shakeout is afoot in the world of urban apparel, as sales of once red-hot labels begin to cool, analysts and industry executives said.

The across-the-board slowdown is alarming some of the major department-store retailers that had allocated a growing amount of space to these brands on the belief that the double-digit sales growth of recent years would continue, sources said.

Federated Department Stores, which operates the Macy's and Bloomingdale's chains, for instance, is seeing recent sales of urban brands decline in the double digits, compared with year-ago levels, said one person, who added: "It has everyone worried."

Meanwhile, demand for the oversized jerseys and baggy jeans that these lines were known for dwindled, as classic looks regained popularity.

"What we had at retail," admits Ullmann, Phat Fashion's president, "was too urban."

Did those three earn legitimate money to buy that bling ar did they steal it and the cars to fit in with the thug culture? If the hip-hop fad is on the way out, let's all get as much grease as possible to hasten it's departure. It has ZERO redeeming values.

I stopped buying them for 6 years and bought two pairs last month. Nothing holds up near as well or fits the way I like. I dunno if I will be buying more or not.

Yep, it started when urban teens imitated the look of their incarcerated older brothers who weren't allowed to have belts in the slammer.

With names like 'The Shady Line' and 'The Snoop Dogg Collection' this article reads like satire.

I have been waiting for the hip-hop bubble to burst and soon it will be as relevant as breakdancing.

We will know hip-hop is dead when MTV returns to its roots and starts playing relly good videos. That'll happen when the state of Kalifornia executes Scott Peterson.

"I loved ToughSkins."

I hated them as a kid. Damned things wouldn't fade no way, no how, and dark blue new-looking jeans were not the style at the time. They were tough, though - I remember my mom breaking needles on her sewing machine trying to do the cuffs on them.

I usually only watch ESPN if a good game is on. But I do like to checkout their crappy movies.

I will watch ESPN during college football season. I am a big college football nut either way. ESPN does have the most games by far.

I will also watch their Sunday night game if I care about one of the teams player or if I have a fantasy player on there. Otherwise, I ignore ESPN and watch Fox Sports Net all the time.

Lee Ann Tweeden is hot!!!

In a lot of ways, Orange county (ie "The OC") is many leagues ahead of other fashion trend setting areas due to the high concentration of young people at the beach.

I noticed the fashion change ocurring last summer on the HB pier: tight long pipe jeans, tight shirts and combed forward hair. It sort of reminds ome of the Roger Dalty look from '65.

The pioneers where good looking guys and girls; now, it's starting to be adopted by the regular kids in the neighborhood. If you look at any of the surfing/lifestyle mags, you'll notice the change as well in the ads.

I'd give it around 6 months before we see a sea change take place in the 'main-stream' fashion industry and perhaps the beginning of next year's school year in the mid-west.

I stopped buying Levis too, although I'd worn them for thirty years or more. I hated the thought of my money helping to fund gay activism and gun control.

Now I buy Lee jeans.

Yeah I so can't wait to get home to the wife, WEAR MY LEVI'S, and buy my house.

Then I get to start a family, something I have been looking forward too since I first met my wife....

Wouldn't it be easier to start your family if you weren't wearing your levi's?
