WORST HOLIDAY SONGS (Streisand at #4, just behind the "Jingle Bells" dogs)
NY Post ^ | December 7, 2004 | JOHN MAINELLI

EVER been driven up the chimney by a Christmas song that you really, really hate? New Jersey researchers have named the six worst Christmas songs of all time, as picked by holiday-music fans who were asked to rate more than 600 yule tunes.

The biggest lump of coal goes to "O Holy Night" as sung by the foul-mouthed Cartman from "South Park," according to Edison Media Research.

Close behind are Seymour Swine & the Squealers' butchered "Blue Christmas," "Jingle Bells" by The Singing Dogs and, separately, Barbra Streisand — and "12 Days of Guido Christmas" by the Ha Ya Doin' Boys.

"We play — very lightly — the Barbra Streisand version of 'Jingle Bells' because she's got a following in New York," says Jim Ryan, programmer of top-rated Lite FM (WLTW/106.7).

"People tend not to like it because it's a really fast, up-tempo version of 'Jingle Bells' — almost like she did it as a goof," Ryan told The Post.

WPLJ (95.5 FM) music director Tony Mascaro says his research turned up a sixth song that listeners can't stand: Elmo & Patsy's "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer."

But even worse is that hideous piece of tripe from Paul McCartney "Simply Havin' a Wonderful Christmas Time".

Oh I can't stand that song! I cringe when I hear it come on.

Oh, man. A cringe-a-rama. That song is brutal.

"Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" and "Nuttin for Christmas" top my list of nauseating Christmas songs.

My most hated: I saw mommy kissing santa claus (it either ruins the myth for the kiddies or convinces them mommy is cheating on daddy.UGH!)

and that ridiculous one from the 80's, the "feed the world" one. One of the lines is "there will be no snow in Africa this Christmas" no kidding-it's AFRICA; it's also summer. There better not be snow. I hate that song.

I have a feeling that William Huang's (of American Idol fame) new album - Huang for the Holidays - is going to significantly rewrite this list.

Bob and Doug McKenzie's "12 Days of Christmas" is a Christmas staple at our house, much to the consternation of my long-suffering wife.

"I despise the Dolly Parton medley of songs on my Time-Life collection album. What a dreadful singer."

When Dolly lost control of her warble, she started sounding like Alvin the Chipmunk on a bender.

"The Top 5: Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song," Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas," Celine Dion's "O Holy Night," Bobby Helms' "Jingle Bell Rock" and John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)." "

When Canada is dead and gone there'll be no more Celine Dion.

I use to think as you do about Dolly Parton until I saw her in concert. She is amazing. Dolly closed the show with the spiritual number "He's Alive". The audience was in tears as they jump to their feet to applaud and cheer.

The woman does have a fantastic voice. Her choise of material can sometimes be a drag.

Heard a song from William Huang's Christmas album on the radio this morning. My two year old who LOVES music and is always wanting me to turn off the talk radio for music started screaming "Turn it off! Turn it off!". Gee, even at age 2 she knows what is good and what's not. Personally, I was enjoying the guy make lemonade out of lemons. But her response was great.

For my favorite non-traditional Christmas song I'd have to go with Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas from the Family".

I guess it's sort of an acquired taste...

Yes!! That is horrible, too. We have this radio station that is non-stop Christmas music until the 26th. I think they are scraping the bottom of the barrel to fill air time. The other night they were playing, "We Are the World" --the instrumental version!!

One vote for Alvin and the Chickmunks "Christmas time is Here"

My favorite Christmas song is Bob Rivers, "The 12 Pains of Christmas".

My favorite song of all time, when performed by the songwriter, Don Francisco. Dolly's version is also top notch.

I was just impressed that Streisand could sing so fast and not pass out. My daughter and son were making fun of the song when we heard it in the truck the other day. My daughter called it the fastest Christmas song she had ever heard.

LMBO!!! I can't stop laughing about this!!

BTW, I forgot about that horrible John Lennon Christmas "War Is Over" song, but that is right up there with that crappy Paul McCartney song for me.
