MILFORD — Devlin Mannle, 18, simply wanted to donate blood as part of Jonathan Law High School’s holiday blood drive last week.
The American Red Cross worker began asking Mannle a series of questions.
Had he been exposed to hepatitis? Malaria? Had he recently visited certain countries in Africa? Is he an intravenous drug user?
Mannle’s answer to each query was "No."
Then the worker asked another question.
"Have you had sex with a man?"
"Yes," Mannle answered.

Fine. The only ones who can give blood to gay people are...other gay people. Otherwise, keep the poisoned blood out of the supply.
These people are beyond stupid.
Guess what kiddos--the blood-donating public is perfectly aware of this policy, as the Red Cross has been asking these questions since about the time you were born.
Adults also remember the hemophiliacs who got infected in the 1980's due to an unsafe blood supply.
Hint: Donating blood is not about you. It's not a form of self expression. It's about helping someone in need. So, get over yourself. The rest of us don't care how the screening process makes you feel. We want a safe blood supply.
That being said, I think the screening process needs to be updated to identify women who have been having monogamous sex with men who have been having sex with other partners. The spread of HIV among women is a problem, and the blood-screening process needs to address it.
You know, as soon as I clicked on "Post", I was thinking I should put on my flame retardant suit, lol! As I told another poster, though, don't worry...In a couple months, I'm gonna be as big and ungainly as a zepplin! Then you can point and giggle all you want. *grin*
It does suck, though, to not be able to donate for-what seems to me-such a silly reason. I did donate once with no ill effects, so it's kinda frustrating. I'm not O-, but I believe that A+ (my type) is a very common one, and I'm sure they could use it.
Despicable, is what it is, IMO. But, after all, this is coming from a community that-for some, at least-having HIV/AIDS is a badge of honor. That alone tells me that a lot of gay men (weirdly enough, you don't hear about this concerning lesbians, I wonder why?) are mentally unbalanced. Who could possibly think deliberately exposing yourself and others to a deadly disease is HONORABLE??
They are free to get it on...but they need to keep the consequences to themselves!
Exactly. A disease is a disease, male or female.

During my annual gyn examination, the doc was asking all kinds of questions, and when he asked if I had been exposed to HIV, I told him that I was in a 100% risk free group; married for almost 30 years to the same guy. He said he had a woman tell him once that she wasn't at risk for HIV because her 'boyfriend' was married! My jaw dropped to the floor! I asked the Doc if he told the chick that the guy could be doing several other girls besides herself, since his marriage vows obviously didn't mean anything to him, and he just shook his head and laughed.

It's weird that I saw this thread. I came back from giving blood 2 hours ago. I still have that sticky "ace bandage" stuff around my arm. While sitting there giving blood, I said a little prayer for whomever it is that gets my blood - that they will be ok and that God will heal and bless them. Then I come home and have to read about some snot-nosed kid who has gotten his shorts all bunched up because, basically, he has exposed himself (and his blood) to risk. Do I think for a moment this punk was thinking about anyone except himself? H*ll NO! Like I said in my previous post - selfish monsters!

In the early 80s, he had copious, unprotected sexual liasons with hundreds of men. All the while infected up to the eyeballs.
THose hundreds of men had unprotected sex with thousands of otherf men. The rest is history.
Yup...I am about 12 1/2 weeks along with baby #5.
