This morning on WMAL radio I heard someone, I believe it was Richard Leiby of the Washington Post Reliable Source column, say that Hillary Clinton has decided that she is too polarizing a person to win the presidency in 2008, so she will concentrate on raising money with the purpose of winning back the Senate for the Democrats.
This is a crock, and I don't think even he believed it because he commented on how much she has moved to the center and is cooperating with Republicans. If she had no designs on the presidency in 2008, she would be moving way to the left of Kennedy and Kerry as fast as her little legs would carry her. This is a typical Hillary lie which she thinks will calm anti-Hillary passions while she raises money and make plans for her inauguration in 2009.
End of story.
She's already running.
She can plan all she likes, I just don't see it happening.
JMO: Unless things change in a major way (the GOP in freefall) then Hillary won't run, because she is indeed too polarizing to ever win and she's not so stupid that she can't figure that out. I think she wants to be Majority Leader of the Senate.
This sounds like too reasonable a rationale to truly be Hillary. Besides, it's way too early for anyone who covets the White House to count themselves out. Just watch...Hillary will work on having a few more "evangelical moments" to polish her image.
Hillary needs time to "reinvent herself".
Look for her to pick up the mantle of "Immigration Reform" as the centerpiece of her "populist" campaign - neither party will address the illegal immigration issue, despite the pleas of 75% of the country. If she runs a campaign based on "enforcing immigration laws to ensure national security" she just might win.
Complete BS. By 2012, she will be 65 and will be running against an incumbent. And she'll be almost 70 in in 2016. So for her it's 08 or never.
Kerry was a putz and they picked him. Anythingis possible.
She can't win? What if we do something stupid like run Bob Dole again?
She knows she won't win and will avoid all the hardship of campaigning for months without end and the embarrassment of a huge loss when all the votes are counted.
You are Correct.
Hitlary Would Run.
Hitlary Would Lose - Hopefully to Mcain or Frist or Whoever.
If Mcain is Smart enough to move to the right, and and if we are smart enough to nominate him, then it doesn't matter who libs run, we would win by a landslide. Too many ifs though....
I think it's too early to say whether she will or won't run.
Give it another year. The picture will likely be a lot clearer by then.
That's what I thought about JFnK, and he came a whole lot closer than I ever thought he would.
If it's true, I guess the Red States have her feeling a bit Blue these days.
Everyone is focusing on billyjeff for UN SecGEn, but she is the one, probably, lusting after that goal!
She wouldn't win, but she will run.
She has the press calling her a moderate everywhere, so she has lots of enablers helping pull one over on the public.
In the end, with her running, we grow the House and Senate.
Look for her to lose the Senate seat in 2006.
If Hillary DID run for president, it would motivate even more people to vote against her than in the 2004 election. If she has truly decided NOT to run, it's because she knows that voters won't forget her past.....just ask John Kerry.
Definitely!
