[history]
President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.

... continuing on to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, for the Thanksgiving holiday. "Don't you know he'll be happy to be back home, where he can kick his shoes off, put on his jeans and just sit back and watch a little football in his own home!!!

NOT GOOD! I don't think our president (any president) needs to be in the public all that much in anymore. The potential for the worst case scenario is always present and these photos prove it.
My first reaction when reading this article was ANGER. How can a situation like this be allowed to happen, and how can we trust other countries to provide the quality protection our president needs?
This better be a heads up wake-up call to the secret service. PRONTO!!

All these world leader meetings.....have they never heard of video conferencing? If they can't do that, send a delegate but keep our beloved president here at home. I stayed drawn up while he was on his last visit to civilized England. Latin & South America is Russian Roulette.

See the picture of President Bush with the head of S.P.E.C.T.E.R, no I mean Russia, Putin

AND thanks to any other servicemen and women who might be reading this, AND thanks to their families for their sacrifice. I don't have any family memebers in any of the services, but thru FR have gotten to know some . . . God bless you all! We do feel the love. Tomorrow I'm heading down to FReep a protest some liberal whackos are aiming at our guys. They're all but calling our GI's Baby Killers. It should be an interesting party.

Don't you have any concern about President Bush's safety, when he is visiting these third world places full of drugs and terrorists and corrupt officials?

I just loved watching him jump into the crowd, pulling people away from his agent and, damn, just taking charge of the situation.

Of course I do, but you, I and every other keyboard expert do not have the FIRST CLUE about the situational security scenario in that area at that time. But, if you look, now the thread is turning bitter that Bush is traveling, that his SS detail failed etc. It's just like clockwork here.
To: JonDavid
Russia may not be our friend, but they are not the enemy.
I do think Bush and Putin have some behind the scene agreements and cooperation.
But I wouldn't trust China, and a lot of S. American countries.

His SS detail didn't fail -- the Chilean security forces deliberately tried to separate President Bush from his protection. That is what happened.
Thank God, that it all ended well.
Bush's quick thinking saved the situation.

the Chilean security forces deliberately tried to separate President Bush from his protection How do you know? You think the entire SS detail was standing in that doorway?

Thank you, yes, that is the lady that I had in mind.
The one at graduation, acts as tho she is Secret Service.
The other photo, I have no knowledge of.
The lady in todays photo, has the long hair and the red jacket, which I have noticed in other photos.
Todays lady does appear younger.
I think it is safe to say that the lady of today is a cop of some type, I don't think a reporter would get that involved.
It is good that you were able to find the photos, the shots of Laura at the graduation, are keepers, she reminds me of the proud mother that she is, yet there is a gleam in her eye, that she managed to get to the graduation.
It had been clearly stated in all the papers, that they would not be there and it was for safety, theirs and all the others in the program. At the time there was an al Qaeda threat out on them.

I haven't read through the 700+ posts, so this may already be posted, however, we have a saying in Texas. It's "Don't mess with Texas" and I think they just realized Texas goes with us wherever we are! 8) I just love a cowboy.

I was surfing the web, looking for more detail on this incident (there doesn't appear to be much) and came across the coolest thing:
of course, it probably helps if you're a Dodgers fan :) . . . the only problem is that I have a hard time looking at the shirt without thinking of Raul Mondesi. (all Dodgers fans are wincing right now)

Bush adjusted his right cuff link in one swift motion, as if shaking the dust off, and headed into dinner...LOL! Now that's the stuff of legend. Along with most FReepers, I'm deeply troubled by the security breech. However, the President was marvelous.
