President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.
Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. Bush noticed the fracas after posing for pictures on a red carpet with the summit host, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife and first lady Laura Bush.
He would have probably punched the guy if he hadn't let his Secret Service guy in!! I love this cowboy!!!
Thanks so much for the ping. It's been kinda dull here today.
Kerry would have gone full throttle in the opposite direction, returned when the fracas was finished, then put himself in for a Bronze Star and Purple Heart
Compare this to our man!!!
"For a guy who's been known derisively to the Bush crowd as the Breck girl," observes Shearer, vice presidential candidate John Edwards seems "way too interested in his hair." He tries to straighten it with his fingers. A makeup technician approaches with a comb, but the senator likes it just so and does the combing himself. He signals he's ready for hair spray by closing his eyes expectantly, like a child. Then Edwards and the technician straighten a little more with their fingers. Please don't tell me that thing in his hand is a compact. Oh, dear. It is.

The word "scrum" is an English idiom for "scrimmage," or the rough-and-tumble of Rugby. Bush played Rugby in college. Scrum is the pile of guys...
As if John Edwards wasn't already jealous!
Well I agree with you, but a lot of countries don't recognize this in their laws. Here in New Zealand up until 1998 foreign heads of states' bodyguards aren't allowed to carry arms when the HOS is making a visit to NZ. According to NZ law they were regarded as status of guests in accompany with HOS in NZ.
Bush had to protect his wife as well as himself.
This whole incident is scary.
Everytime he leaves here to visit another country I pray.
He left from Ft Hood yesterday, we live nearby.
When I heard he was about to take off for Chile, I thought oh why is he going there, I wish he wouldn't!!
This incident was probably more dangerous than we know.
Meeeeeeeeeee too..
Heads up Congress critters.. THIS is what we EXPECT from you too.
Was Dubya ticked off at the Chileans, the situation, or his security for getting into a scuffle?
Some of the pictures of W's back make it clear he is wearing a bullet proof vest himself.
THIS to me was the most disturbing photo I have seen in a long time. For the obvious reasons. Whewh!
This IMHO is not an accident or misunderstanding. I don't think this was a probe. Perhaps President Bush prevented his own assassination. President Bush needs are prayers
The first GOP ad of '08!
You are DEFINITELY NOT overreacting on this.
How can another government think that it can muscle in on the U.S. Secret Service and thus threaten the president's safety by creating a bad precedent?
For the sake of the braindead, it must be repeated: "As Bush stepped inside, Chilean agents closed ranks at the door, blocking the president's agents from following."
I like a "hands on" president.
Thanks for the pings
Contrast that to the Shrill telling her secret service agents to keep the f!@% a few feet behind her.
Actually a scrum is much better organised. The correct rugby term for what was happening would be a maul or ruck. That's with an R.
