BAGHDAD, Iraq - A posting on an Islamist Web site warned Iraqis to stay at home Wednesday in Baghdad and other cities or they would be "putting their lives in danger."
The statement, in the name of eight known militant groups, said the unified "Islamic resistance" would step up operations against the "American enemy" in retaliation for the U.S.-led attack on the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah.
The statement urged Iraqis to stay at home Wednesday "to avoid putting their lives in danger."
In Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's hometown, insurgents distributed leaflets warning shopkeepers to close their stores indefinitely starting Wednesday to protest the attack on Fallujah.
Some families said they would keep their children away from school Wednesday because of the insurgent threat.
That is scary. I really want the elections to take place as soon as possible, but by January? It may take 6 months to quiet things down in Iraq... or longer.. who knows?
I'll ust keep praying for own men and hope that we can pull it off.

Hope this means that the vote swings to those who oppose the insurgents the most.
Your right, I was just calling them insurgents. How about calling them gang bangers (the difference being that in the middle east, folks seemed convinced gang bangers ought to run the country).
As if the "insurgents" haven't been targeting Iraqi civilians all along.
I see this as good news. If the Iraqi people are worried about their children (unlike the Palestinians who would be standing in line to have a bomb strapped on their kid) they're going to get fed up quick with the terrorists. An angry populace will go a long way to getting rid of the terrorists, just ask the Muslims residing in The Netherlands.

That's right. It could be a lot longer, and we don't know. What you're missing is that free elections could go a long way toward helping that effort.
I agree. However, look at Afganastan. We waited a lot longer before we had elections there. It will be a lot more difficult in Iraq. I will try to be optimistic! ;)
