NEAR FALLUJAH, Iraq - More than 4,000 U.S. Marines and Army troops punched their way into northeastern Fallujah on Monday, kicking off a massive assault dubbed Operation Phantom Fury that seeks to put an end to half a year of insurgent control of the Sunni Muslim city.
The prelude to the assault on the Askari neighborhood was a crushing air and artillery bombardment of the city that rose to a crescendo by Monday evening, with U.S. strike jets dropping bombs around the clock and big guns pounding the city every few minutes with high-explosive shells.
Meanwhile, insurgents in Baghdad and nearby Ramadi tried to keep up the pressure on the coalition forces with new attacks, including one on a Catholic church in the capital.
Earlier Monday U.S. troops had fought their way into the city's western outskirts, seizing two bridges over the Euphrates River and helping Iraqi soldiers take the city's main hospital in the first stage of a major assault on the insurgent stronghold.

Yep! I love that quote. If you go to that link to the text, there is the text from the movie with George C. Scott and then there is the text from Patton's ACTUAL statement. Unsensored.
Operation Phantom Fury, killing bad guys ~ Bump!
A while back there was "Anaconda".
Me too.. unless he's catching a ride atop one of the bombs ;)
My bet Zarkie has long turned his tail and fled (brave, brave Sir Zarkie) and is riding a camel toward the syrian border while Osama is sipping mint tea in Pakistan at the house of the chief of the ISI, watching it all on CNN while he waits for the ayatollah's to finish their bomb.
Use all of the explosive RAID fellows; we're behind you 100%. Hail to our troops!
This is only place I have seen this report of 38 U.S.captured by the enemy.I read a report where we captured 38 Iraqi's.
If 38 of our guys were captured I'd expect it to be on FOX or CNN.
They have had success setting off and clearing booby traps.
I get a kick out of the drug war ops... the most recent I read about was "Op. Baja Kings."
There are many different variables in your #1 question: the type of round fired [armor-piercing, fin-stabilized discarding sabot made of depleted uranium (AP), high-explosive antitank (HEAT), and/or high-explosive multipurpose antitank (MPAT)] and the type of construction of the houses. A sabot round would go the fartherest, yet the holes would not necessarily be man sized. HEAT or MPAT rounds would blow a large hole in the outside wall, yet may not hole the inner walls. It may also bring down the whole house, depending the construction materials.
#2, there is not, to my knowledge, a single round like that, but there is a 120mm "beehive" cannister round that throws about 1200 tungsten steel balls that would be like a Claymore on steroids.
Hope this info helps or Google M1A1 M1A2 tank rounds for more.
Urban Warfare is the most difficult type of combat and I pray for our troops. May God guide their hands.
Not to worry, It is already mainstrem media information.
I would not make anything public that I thought was opsec.
Baghdad Bob has been training the reporters well in some sites..
Holey Frijoles! What an exchange of words to remember!
MSNBC reporter: 4000 troops entering from the north. Full-scale ground assault. 24 hour curfew on city. Arrest killer; "If you kill them, let it be", Alawi (sp) the Iraqi PM said.
Army 1st ID reporter, Jackie Spinner (phone report MSNBC). 1.5 hours ago, entered the city, detonating booby traps. Some resistance. Impossible to tell how long battle will last. Big battle will be when they reach further into the inner city where most of the 'insurgents' are.
Preparing for door-to-door, if necessary.
Troops were anxious to get in, restless, in the 'hurry up and wait' mode. Glad to be in action.
Obviously, yes! :)
General Casey to give briefing shortly.
God bless and keep our soldiers safe. I hope it is just a ruse and they are wrong.

US Marines of the 1st Division dressed as gladiators stage a chariot race reminiscent of the Charlton Heston movie-complete with confiscated Iraqi horses at their base outside Fallujah, Iraq (news - web sites), Saturday, Nov. 6 , 2004. For U.S. Marines tapped to lead an expected attack on insurgent-held Fallujah, the bags have been packed, trucks have been loaded and final letters have been sent, leaving one final task - the 'Ben-Hur.'
