Edwards Positions Himself for 2008
AP ^ | Nov. 5, 2004 | Liz Sidotti

Democrat John Edwards lost the election for the vice presidency this week and will lose his Senate seat in January. But he's hardly going away. He's positioned himself for a full-out presidential run in 2008, a campaign that in a way he's already begun.

For now, though, politics is on hold. His wife, Elizabeth, was diagnosed with breast cancer this week just after Democrat John Kerry and running mate Edwards conceded the race to President Bush.

"Together, our family will beat this," Edwards said on Thursday in a statement that made clear her treatment would be the focus of his immediate future.

Longer range, the North Carolina senator with the good looks, Southern charm, rags-to-riches biography and "tomorrow can be better than today" pitch is in the top rank of candidates expected to compete for the White House in four years.

Something tells me he'll do even worse than Lieberman did the second time around.

Good...I'd like to see him, Hillary, Howard Dean, Al Gore, and Al Franken all run in the 08 Dem primaries.

He and his wife are both lunatics. Yesterday's news, and don't even realize it.

That said, I lost my mother to cancer this past summer, and I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone.

I hope and pray she recovers.

I hope its missionary position, and not something the gay lobby would prefer.

The Breck girl is living in a dream world. After the speech that he made on Wednesday I'd be surprised if could get a single delegate in the nominations. I expect that he'll go the route of Al Gore and become a raving lunatic.

He should never venture closer than 25 miles from Fort Marcy Park.

"Rags to riches" Yes, the wonderful story of a man who sues doctors and hospitals, which puts them out of business or causes their insurance rates to go up, which drives up the cost for everybody.

the North Carolina senator with the good looks

That's a matter of opinion.

Southern charm

Or irritating faux Southern accent.

rags-to-riches biography

What a load of tripe. He came from a comfortable middle class home.

"tomorrow can be better than today" pitch

Did he say that? All I heard was that there were two Americas. Or one America. Whatever. I didn't hear anything he had to say, to be honest.

"President My Little Pony" simply doesn't have the right ring to it...

Doesn't he have to run again in '06 for his Senate seat in NC? Does he really think they are going to re-elect him?

Funny, Rush has always said that the more you fail in the Democratic party the more they love you and want to prop you up for the next time.

Since Silky Pony was easily the worst campaigner and least persuasive of all the major candidates this time around, it is only natural he'd be the big props guy.

Though it is always funny how these losers manage to annoint THEMSELVES, isn't it.

Doesn't he know the unemployment checks run out after a few weeks?

Edwards isn't positioning himself for sh!t. The political prospects for candidates who lose in presidential elections is bad enough . . . losing VP candidates, on the other hand, always vanish from the political scene very quickly. I give it 90 days, and nobody will even remember who the hell John Edwards was.
