***Operation 4 More Years - Situation Room - Day 1 - LIVE THREAD***
Various | 2 November 2004 | Various

Posted on 11/02/2004 2:48:56 AM PST by An.American.Expatriate

As I and many of my fellow expatriates are often hard pressed to get any non-biased information from the media (we are often stuck with CNN-International!!), I have decided to start this thread in the tradition of the Operation Iraqi Freedom Situation Room threads.  I hope this meets with the approval of Jim & John and the Admin guys . . .

The purpose of this thread is to be a place to collect information from all sources into one area for discussion.  Specific threads for specific topics and cross linking are highly encouraged.

Just voted in the Florida panhandle.

Usually just walk in and vote, but today we waited on line for an hour and a half.

This is a Republican district, so I'm very happy we had such a large crowd.

When we left, the line was much longer than when we arrived.

Praying for our President.

WEST BOCA RATON - Much the same thing here with the Bowelmovement.org people. It was me and about 200 Dems. Got there at 6:40 - poll opened at 7 and it took 20 minutes to get through. You have to be brain-dead not to be able to use the new machines. Turn out looked above average for this precinct. Bushies with huge sign at Palmetto Park Rd and Military Trail - it said "Arafat, Bin Laden, and Kim Jong Il all endorse Kerry. VOTE BUSH." I honked in support.

Historically, who does high voter turnout tend to favor?

Today it depends on the location. If there's heavy turnout in Chicago, it favors Kerry. If there's heavy turnout in Indiana, it favors Bush.

From what I've been able to tell ... turnout is high in both Dem and Repub areas

From NRO:

51.2% TO 47.8% [Larry Kudlow]

That’s the call made by Ed Goeas, co-author of the blue-chip, bipartisan Battleground Poll. I spoke to Ed this morning, at 7 a.m. He is using an ultra-conservative, worst-case, 2000-like, partisan sample of 44.3% Democrats and 42.3% Republicans. He tells me Bush has bounced up in the past 48 hours on leadership and Iraq. Also, on the economy -- on keeping America prosperous, Bush has moved up from a 45% to 47% deficit to a 48% to 46% lead.

This could be the response to the excellent GDP economic report published Friday and totally ignored by the political-pundit class. Investors may be responding positively to the pre-election stock market rally. Ed also believes that white, conservative, Christian Evangelicals could carry the day for Bush, where 83% look to be voting, giving a 69 percentage-point margin to Bush, and seven percentage points higher intensity support for Bush than labor unions have for Kerry.

Goeas also weights Hispanic support for Bush at a conservative 35%, even though his “unaided” tally actually produces a 43% Hispanic vote for Bush. Goeas also believes he is underweighting black support for Bush and male support."

43% of the hispanic vote! That sounds fishy, but the rest looks good to me!

Checking in from Gilbert, AZ (suburb of Phoenix). Hubby and I got to polling place at 6:30 A.M. There was already a long line. We were out at 7:25. Driving around, I saw other polling places with long lines out the door. This is a very conservative area (Thank God).

Of course my vote was FOR Bush!

Take THAT
Mainstream media
Hollywood elites
European elites
University elites
Pro-aborts
Liberal Catholics
anti-Christians
etc.

Registrations are way up. So instead of 70 out of 100 it might be 140 out of 150

One request for my fellow FReeper, please? When you check in about your polling experiences, it would help if you named the state, it would give us more of an idea of (no pun intended) "where you are coming from".

Just an idea, because since I live in Texas and it isn't a swing state, my vote isn't as "important" as someone in a swing state.

Thanks - I just love this thread!

There was a group of college kids there for Cindy Maples passing out tootsie rolls to the kids and a handful of others with Move On PAC signs and Willoughby/Saunders. Ugh! I felt a little deflated after listening to all the campaigning this past year only to have it over in less than 10 minutes. I think having to stand in line for hours might have been more satisfying!! :-) Now I just have to wait and keep myself occupied with my daughter, laundy, cleaning etc. Just another day...ho...hum. Anyone else feel like that? Despite the fact that I'm taking regular breaks to check in here, I really am trying not to get sucked into the T.V./internet until later in the evening. Not working very well!!

According to Paul Harvey, despite his recent conviction, Pee Wee Herman will be allowed to vote....but he won't be allowed to close the curtain all the way.

Votes in.
God Bless GWB and America!

The cool weather hasn't dampened the turnout in my neck of conservative Republican Ottawa County. Lots of people pleasantly waiting in line. Turnout looks good on this side of the state so far. We celebrated with doughnuts.

I'm going to vote in a few minutes on my way to work. I hope so anyway.....

I sent in for an absentee ballot and it never came. I called in and was told that it was mailed off on the 18th of October. It still has not come. They told me that I should tell the people at the polling place that I had requested an absentee ballot which was supposedly mailed off to me and that it never came. I am to tell them that "I am entitled to vote" there. They gave me an affadavit number and gave me a phone number to call in case there are any problems.

Here in California, there have been a lot of people who haven't gotten their absentee ballots (but it does seem that it's only Republicans having this problem). My daughter (also a Republican) didn't get a sample ballot and when she called in she was told that it was mailed out to her but had been returned to them as undeliverable. They put her on an "inactive" list. She always votes. Hm...

I think that it's the 'rats trying to discourage us conservatives from voting. No proof - just a hunch, and the fact that not one person that I have heard complain about having problems is a Democrat.

Polls are open here in WA. I know this state will probably go for Kerry (frickin' liberals on the west side), but I live in a pretty conservative area on the east side. So we're hoping for some good results in the Senate race George Nethercutt vs. Patty Murray, and I hope my man, Dino Rossi, can pull one outta the hat and become our first Republican governor in forever. Done voting already ... Cast my vote (AGAIN!!! Third time I've voted for a Bush) for W!!!

Go W!

I came back from voting less than a half hour ago. I live in Fairfax County in Northern Virginia, in Congressman Moran's district. I waited about half an hour to vote. The line was pretty long. I was surprised, since I got there shortly after the polls opened at 6 am. One person in the line said he had never seen the line this long at 6 am.

I had a very similar experience in Peoria. I usually get to the poll by 6:15--it was more like 6:25 this time and I had to wait 15 minutes to vote. I have never seen the polls so crowded. Some people were from the wrong precincts, so I suspect they were either new voters or hadn't voted in a long time. This should be very interesting in terms of registered vote turn out. If we get 70% or more and 55% for GWB (my prediction) that's a pretty rousing endorsement.
