FROM A SOURCE CLOSE TO THE CAMPAIGN (GOOD NEWS FOR BUSH) [10/28 02:07 PM]
Just heard from a source close to the campaign, tuned in to the conversations at the highest levels.
According to the Bushies, the last few days have seen a huge burst of momentum in their numbers.
They think Bush is ahead by a few points nationally. They expect the next round of tracking polls to show a bit of a bump.
The internal polls show a significant lead in Florida (outside margin of error) and Arkansas is out of play, with a Bill Clinton visit or without. As for most of the other big ones - Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, internal polls show all too close to call.
Michigan is seriously looking like a pickup - Bush and Cheney could be there four times in the last four days.
An exit poll of those who have already voted show Bush ahead by 15 points!
Undecided voters appear to be breaking Bushs way - some days he has a slight lead, other days its right around 50-50. (Note this would be considerably better than the 1/3 calculated that Bush needs here.
Finally, the ammo dump story appears to have left the Kerry campaign deep in al-Qaqaa.
Tommy Franks is going to enter this story and rip Kerry and the New York Times a new one. The Kerry folks are acting like they realized they have botched this story, and want to shift back to domestic topics. Lockhart, Bill Richardson on Imus when asked about al-QaQaa, they dodge the question and quickly try to bring up other issues.
The campaign is going to avoid the Russian angle and go with the straightforward, As the facts mount in this story, American people have a choice between believing Kerry-NYTimes-CBS or believing Bush and the Troops.
This source close to the campaign didnt say it, but I wonder if the Bush administration wants to deal with Russia in its own manner, and not have whatever diplomatic confrontations are going on behind the scenes complicated by a furious American electorate blaming Russia for hiding Iraqs weapons and explosives.
I think the Governor of Pennsylvania has actually helped the President by not allowing the deadline to be extended for military absentee ballots. Aside from the extreme left, most americans believe in a sense of fair play. and most Americans love our troops. By stabbing our servicemen and women in the back, the democrats are in big trouble in PA.
And with Kerry continuing today with the missing weapons nonsense, which is indeed an attack on our troops, I think it will cause many undecideds to break the President's way. Jim
How is Bush on the defensive? With the base locked up, he's on the attack trying to pick up votes among the Democratic ranks.
Nonethless, these last few days before the election are probably going to seem like months...to say nothing of the Dems litigation Doomsday Plan afterwards.
Did anyone see the Red Sox highlight reel set to Tom Petty's "The Waiting" on Sportscenter last night? I think that song is going to become an anthem of mine over the next couple of days.
Arnold has strong influence, period. He set the ball rolling for W's post-convention surge.
We're not talking about intellectuals who reason out their votes.
We're talking about the mushy middle who changed their minds on a whim 2 weeks ago, and we're talking about changing these minds back.
This is my feel:
Americans will go into the voting booth, look at the choices: John Kerry or George Bush, and will go with their gut.
Their gut says Bush.
I believe in America, just like Reagan did.
My brother in-law is a Union Worker for Bush.. Probably just because of our family though.. haha
I tell you what- All of the firefighters at the station hate Kerry and support Bush - Kerry makes everyone sick and so do the unions including the FF union
And not just what's-his-name. Look at all the crapheads he drags in with him--Holbrooke, Berger, Not-so-bright. Not to mention vesting control of the Supreme Court to the nutty left-wing for the next 30 years.
Please explain why Bush isn't calling a press conference. He should have Tommy Franks explain the details. This way all the networks will be tuned in.
That's what I asked the Bush team to consider saying - this report makes it seem pretty close.
the General will tear that punk kerry a new one
I downloaded it from audible.com. It is great! And, it gets even better toward the end, when he gets into the action on the ground in Iraq!
WoooHooo! You will have been a big contributing factor if Bush wins Michigan. Bush and all of us owe ya big time!!
Go, Dubya, Go! Win, HLL, Win!
Wow. Can this be real?

He opened up a chain of fitness clubs there years and years ago. He spent so much time doing publicity events in Ohio that he called it his second home.
I hear from a source inside the campaign that polling shows Bush will take New Mexico, too.
Expect a number of Gore states to flip.
Does Ohio matter if Bush picks up other "Gore" states?
Not too long ago Tommy Franks was on Sean Hannity. They were discussing Kerry's Viet Nam history. Franks said he would not question his service in Viet Nam. His actions at home were another matter.
"Loyalty" was the key. Kerry's accusations showed he had to loyalty to those he served with.
I imagine General Franks will have something to say about the lack of loyalty kerry is showing to our troops in Iraq.
" why does Arnold have such strong influence in Ohio?"
He owns half of the buildings in Columbus and holds bodybuilding events like "The Arnold Classic" there.
No. If Bush wins FL. IA. and NM it's over. That's 272. Fat lady will sing
You are exactly correct about that. The MSM does not believe in fair play.
