WGME loses ads over plan to air anti-Kerry film
By RAY ROUTHIER, Portland Press Herald Writer
WGME's plan to air a documentary critical of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry prompted three Maine companies Thursday to pull their advertising from the Portland TV station.
Hannaford supermarkets, the Lee Auto Malls, and the law offices of Joe Bornstein withdrew their advertising indefinitely from WGME (Channel 13) over its plans to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" on Oct. 23.

I sent an email to each management person and copied every one of the advertisers I could locate an email address for... I also started with a note that they could forward a copy of my email to as many people as they needed to.

Lee Auto mall / Auto Group is owned by a Shep Lee. He is Mr. Democrat in Maine. He once worked for Ed Muskie as an adviser and has been extremely close with George Mitchell. I had a friend who worked at one of his dealerships
he put a picture of GW up in his cubicle and within an hour it came down from the top that Shep didnt approve it and that it had to be removed. No big surprise really
But I am glad to see that my buddies in Maine will get to enjoy this flick
I on the other hand, will be stuck in the heart of the beast in Boston

Read up...Hannaford's revised statement reversing their decision.
To: Mr. Silverback
Hannafords reversed their decision this morning..read up. Howie Carr started his show on this topic as well unaware that Hannaford's had made the decision to remain with their advertising. He was quickly told of their revised statement..which is actually a good on showing no political favoritism.

Sorry for the repetitive post but lately it takes a while to see the post even after refreshing several times and then I start to second guess myself... did I push the wrong button..? No..some sort of delay.

Glad to hear Hannaford got back into groceries. I think I'll stick with Shaw's for at least another month. Just to make sure Hannafords knees don't start to buckle again. ; )

Good work on the post SW.
Not the first time Hannaford has tried to get in the political mix. Stop and Shop wants to put their first Maine store in Kennebunk and Hannaford has been throwing up roadblocks since day one---they own/affiliate with the little market in town. We had to have a special referendum to approve it and it passed but they still persist in slowing it down.
While glad they backed off their ad pulling, we will still continue to shop at Shaws and SuperWalmart up the road in Biddeford until the Stop and Shop gets built.
Thanks WGME!

Dear Mr. :
Thank you for your recent email. We appreciate your feedback and are glad to have the opportunity to respond.
We would like to keep you updated on our status related to the Sinclair Broadcasting concern.
Effective immediately, we have reversed our decision to pull our advertising from WGME. We recognize that WGME has been put in an untenable position. It was never our intent to politicize this issue even more, or to punish WGME. We are in the supermarket business, not the political
business. We have always made our media buying decisions based on our customer demographic, and will continue to do so.
We truly apologize for any frustration or confusion this may have caused you. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.
Sincerely,
Terri Morgan
Customer Relations Research Specialist

Do you know anything about Shepard Lee's background. World War II age and yet I have never read any mention of military service. Needles to say, not a day in uniform for any of his sons. Ask your friend if he had heard anything regarding Shep's military background if you get a chance.
