WGME loses ads over plan to air anti-Kerry film
By RAY ROUTHIER, Portland Press Herald Writer
WGME's plan to air a documentary critical of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry prompted three Maine companies Thursday to pull their advertising from the Portland TV station.
Hannaford supermarkets, the Lee Auto Malls, and the law offices of Joe Bornstein withdrew their advertising indefinitely from WGME (Channel 13) over its plans to air "Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal" on Oct. 23.

Do you have Shaw's Supermarkets in Maine? Call or e-mail them and tell them there's an open spot to advertise on Sinclair's station. ; )
I have done so...thank you for posting.
We need a mailing list of advertisers, NATIONAL AND LOCAL,so that consumers national and in their local areas can directly contact the advertisers to show our support of this show and Sinclair.
"When you call Bornstein, you mean business!" This Bornstein guy is always running ads showing other lawyers quaking in their boots at the mere mention of his name. Of course, being a personal injury lawyer himself, it's not surprising that Bornstein would be sympathetic toward Kerry/Edwards. I usually go to Hannaford's, but it looks like I'll be going to Shaw's (we have lots of these in Maine) for a while (and stocking up on Hunt's ketchup).
Have sent my email.
Thanks for the info. Good work!

Ping your Maine list?
That's a good idea. Perhaps a list of competitors of those who pull out too. They can be alerted to the fact that spots have opened up. They might be able to dicker a little discount for the first month or two. ; )
If someone had access to the military families (Navy Base- Bath Iron Works etc) mass email in Maine..this could really make a difference.
Have written Shaw's as well. WGME will probably have the highest numbers on those nights, as I normally do not watch the station with more to choose from on Satellite and I have to switch to antennae.

Gotcha covered! :)
Thanks I like knowing people in High places!! ;)
ALERT: Hannaford's position on political broadcast
Hannaford has indicated that following its announcement yesterday that it had pulled its advertising from WGME (Portland, ME), based on the stations plans to air a controversial political program, it had reversed its decision. Hannaford is in the supermarket business, not the political business," she said. "We make our media buying decisions based on our customer demographic and WGME is one of the stations in the market that reaches our customers."

Thank Hannaford Foods if you have the time. I have.

Now they are being smart! They woke up. The loss of revenue would have stunted their growth, and that's for sure.

Lee Auto Malls now has 10 locations with 15 new car franchises in Maine
Oh! Ok! Well, I'm not vehicle shopping. Probably why I didn't pay attention to them. :)
