Group: al-Qaida Detainees 'Disappeared'
Associated Press ^ | Oct 11th, 2004 | SAM DOLNICK

NEW YORK - At least 11 al-Qaida suspects have "disappeared" in U.S. custody, and some may have been tortured, Human Rights Watch said in a report issued Monday.

The prisoners are probably being held outside the United States without access to the Red Cross or any oversight of their treatment, the human rights group said. In some cases, the United States will not even acknowledge the prisoners are in custody.

The report said the prisoners include the alleged architect of the Sept. 11 attacks, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, as well as Abu Zubaydah, who is believed to be a close aide to Osama bin Laden.

In refusing to disclose the prisoners' whereabouts or acknowledge the detentions, Human Rights Watch said, the U.S. government has violated international law, international treaties and the Geneva Convention. The group called on the government to bring all the prisoners "under the protection of the law."

"I think the U.S. demeans itself when it adopts the philosophy that the ends justify the means in the fight against terror," said Reed Brody, special counsel with Human Rights Watch.

witness here again the insidious pervasiveness of lawyers,
everywhere they go they do like this, it doesn't matter how evil someone is, as long as they can get their fee they will defend him/her/it. Or in the case of the JAG corps , it often doesn't matter how good someone is , as long as they make their rank , they will be happy to destroy another service persons career and life.
Next to the Islamist terrorists , lawyers might come next
as the lowest bottom feeders of the sub-human food chain.
And John Kerry is one , and so is his running mate .
What's that tell you 'ladies and gentlemen' ?

Dear Human Rights Watch,

A couple of them "fell down the stairs," a couple of them had heart attacks, at least one has the flu and the cat ate the rest.

We'll keep you posted on their progress.

America

Of course Reed probably thinks that when Islamic fanatics
cut the heads off innocent people, it doesn't demean Islam.
....................exactly!
Is there any way to track their Human Rights Watch Groups "watching" and protests to Palestine, to the Chechnya terrorists, the the Iraqi terrorists -
Did I miss them calling for 'Humane; treatment of the terrorists victims in Iraq? Did I miss any condemnation of the subsequent beheadings - not what we think of, either - not a clean, swift cutting off of a head, but slow, agonizing , chopping with a knife.
Sorry about the gruesomeness, but we can't pretty up what they're doing. We must not forget. 'I wonder, how does Kerry characterize these barbaric acts?
(Sorry, I forgot. Same level as prostitution and gambling)

And how many Nazi and Japanese prisoners "disappeared" during WWII. This works for me.
;........

Have they yet gone to Vietnam to demand the missing POW that have never been accounted for?
I can't remember what the scandal scuttlebutt was about the then Senator Kerry's trip - in the 80's) to Vietnam was regarding the POW issue. Anyone remember?
but I wonderful if they grace him a hero's welcome? He is after remembered in the Ho Chi Minh War Memorial Museum as a "hero" who aided in their victory. (So you see, folks, he IS war hero.)
Good Lord, how did a snake like this ever get to within a hairs breath of the WH?

What's that tell you 'ladies and gentlemen' ?

One can hardly forget the last two lawyers we
had in the white house!

I didn't suffer through eight year of them
just to see their clones return in four.

Why don't we rather bring THEM to the PRISONERS, wherever they may be - and leave them there.

You human toad. You piece of excrement. You offal outcast!

Think about this: in spite of being self-demeaned, an international "outlaw", a violator of human rights, and a country "which has lost its way", it allows scum like you to spout your platitudes and ride your rotting moral high horse undisturbed. That's got to send some kind of message.

As to the human waste you claim has disappeared... The most inhuman and inhumane torture imanigeable is much too kind for them. In my universe they would have been shot on the spot, chopped into tiny pieces and fed to the pigs.

Other than that, I agree with you totally.

Aren't we allowed to shoot them as spies under the Geneva Convention?
.................

yeah! They weren't in uniform, were they?

but seriously, I wonder if the Geneva Convention even covers these guys - the geneva convention allows that even bonifide soldiers, if caught out of uniform, could be shot.
Aren't these scumbags who come here and operate in secret, plotting against our country and our lives - spies?
ergo - bye bye...

Hundreds of thousands are dead in the Sudan...hope HRW is working on that one, too.

Has anyone asked them? How about if 50,000 of us do that? What's the address?

I suppose it never occured to HRW that the US Government does not acknowlege that we have them in custody because we do NOT have them in custody. There is more than one country which would like to have a chance to question those guys, and some of them are even less gentle about interogations than we are. I wouldn't be surprized if one of our allies wanted to talk to any of these "gentlemen", that we would have been only too glad to hand them over, in return for a transcript of the conversation.

http://www.hrw.org/

11 "detainees" (TERRORISTS) versus hundreds of thousands of innocents...that's the part I don't get...11 p.o.s. do not equate to hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children in Sudan...Maybe they are just following the Halperin Philosophy where you don't really have to be totally honest or impartial. As long as you can slam the US.....

FD:

Why dump just every fourth load?

My idea is that you find 'em, question 'em--them dump the lot of 'em.

We ought to do that with a few frenchman as well ;-)

The only problem with the execution (pun intended) of the war on Nuisance, er--Terror is that we have played 'nice' far too long. We need to use the same 'rules' the bad guys use. If they really want to see Allah, I say we ought to fulfill their request instantly. (my idea of a sensitive war, lol)
