NEW YORK - At least 11 al-Qaida suspects have "disappeared" in U.S. custody, and some may have been tortured, Human Rights Watch said in a report issued Monday.
The prisoners are probably being held outside the United States without access to the Red Cross or any oversight of their treatment, the human rights group said. In some cases, the United States will not even acknowledge the prisoners are in custody.
The report said the prisoners include the alleged architect of the Sept. 11 attacks, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, as well as Abu Zubaydah, who is believed to be a close aide to Osama bin Laden.
In refusing to disclose the prisoners' whereabouts or acknowledge the detentions, Human Rights Watch said, the U.S. government has violated international law, international treaties and the Geneva Convention. The group called on the government to bring all the prisoners "under the protection of the law."
"I think the U.S. demeans itself when it adopts the philosophy that the ends justify the means in the fight against terror," said Reed Brody, special counsel with Human Rights Watch.
One things for sure they are not killing women and children anymore.
Some have disappeared and some may have been tortured?

Think about this: in spite of being self-demeaned, an international "outlaw", a violator of human rights, and a country "which has lost its way", it allows scum like you to spout your platitudes and ride your rotting moral high horse undisturbed. That's got to send some kind of message.
As to the human waste you claim has disappeared... The most inhuman and inhumane torture imanigeable is much too kind for them. In my universe they would have been shot on the spot, chopped into tiny pieces and fed to the pigs.

but seriously, I wonder if the Geneva Convention even covers these guys - the geneva convention allows that even bonifide soldiers, if caught out of uniform, could be shot.

I wonder what makes Reed Brody think that anybody gives a rip about his opinon.
Has anyone asked them? How about if 50,000 of us do that? What's the address?
I suppose it never occured to HRW that the US Government does not acknowlege that we have them in custody because we do NOT have them in custody. There is more than one country which would like to have a chance to question those guys, and some of them are even less gentle about interogations than we are. I wouldn't be surprized if one of our allies wanted to talk to any of these "gentlemen", that we would have been only too glad to hand them over, in return for a transcript of the conversation.

The only problem with the execution (pun intended) of the war on Nuisance, er--Terror is that we have played 'nice' far too long. We need to use the same 'rules' the bad guys use. If they really want to see Allah, I say we ought to fulfill their request instantly. (my idea of a sensitive war, lol)
