The New York Times reported on October 5 on a growing number of African-American pastors who are supporting President Bushs re-election this year.
The Times features Rev. Walter Humphrey, pastor of two churches in Akron, Ohio. Rev. Humphrey says the election of Bush in 2000 wasnt about a stolen election. I see that as the providence of God.
Rev. Humphrey says he sees the hand of God on President Bush and supports him because of Bushs opposition to same-sex marriage and promotion of faith-based social programs.
Rev. Humphrey has helped organize other African-American pastors in Ohio who have come out to endorse President Bushs re-election.
Another pastor is Rev. Herbert Lusk II of Philadelphia who has been pushing for his fellow pastors to support Bush.
Polls indicate that African-American voters are strongly supportive of traditional marriage and oppose homosexual marriage by a wide margin. This issue could be a key one for blacks this year. A Gallup Poll published in May, 2004 indicated that 72% of blacks oppose granting legal recognition to homosexual marriage. The figure for the general population is only 59%.
The Dallas Morning News (8/27/2004) quoted longtime Democratic voter Vicki Britt who said, Same-sex marriage goes against everything that the Bible teaches. She will vote for Bush this year even though I feel some things Bush has done are wrong. Hes against same-sex marriage. She attends Mount Airy Church in Christ in Philadelphia.
TVCs African-American Summit on Marriage, held in September, included more than 160 pastors from around the nation who gathered in Washington, DC to defend the importance of protecting traditional marriage.
As part of their effort to defend marriage, the pastors signed a letter of concern and tried to visit with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC). They were rebuffed by the CBC.
I love that poster. Where did you find it?
What list?
HALLELUJAH. The Light has dawned.
I see you are a fairly new FReeper, welcome. Check out the Daily Dose here on FR, if you haven't already. It's a friendly place full of (mostly) women who like Dubya.
I was raised Catholic and did 12 years in Catholic school back when they still had nuns, but am Jewish now.
Also a sistah, waiting for the volcano to blow in Seattle.
God bless you BP.....may I ask you a question? Do you get any grief from your family or friends over this? I pray you don't. IMHO, I think the Republican Party is THE party for the blacks in this country....but they have been brainwashed for so many years by the likes of Jesse, Al and their ilk. I'm glad to see this changing.
"I THINK THAT SOMETHING BIG IS GOING TO HAPPEN AND MY COUNTRY WILL NEED ME."
I read that and it just fit. It reminds me of the Inaugural Address, which Bush ended with the quote "An angel still rides the whirlwind, and guides the storm."
There was much discussion here at the time about this mystical quote, but we learned what it meant in the days following 9/11.
I am as skeptical as any one of faith could be about God acting directly to intervene in worldly affairs in this world; but I do not doubt that Bush's 2000 election and the Court outcome affirming that election were acts of divine intervention.
I hope those 4 million "fundamentalist" MIA's from 2000 have gotten the message by now, and will do the right thing on Nov 2.
Wonder if the AP is going to refer to these black pastors as a bunch of religious fanatics. We all know what the media would be saying if these pastors were White.

I'm still fairly young and jesse and al didn't have much if any influence in my political opinions. It's the media that has the biggest influence TV, music, news, and magazines. It was accidentally hearing Allen keys on the radio that I found out I was a Conservative. Since then I have delved into learning about conservatism burke hayek sowell etc. As far as my family is concerned one has turned and the others will not be voting for kerry. As my wife told me when we were leaving my family reunion after I had debated my uncle. "Poor basterd, he never had a chance." LOL
They quote still others. I wonder if there is a national petition or something of that nature?
LOL, that's great. Thanks!
That is an image I grabbed from Front Page Magazine a couple of years ago. When I saw it, I thought, "Perfect!"
Great news for the GOP--Bad news for The New York Times.
-Regards, T.
There's a list of signatures on the bottom of their letter to the CBC.
