If Kerry is elected, we should start learning Chinese, because we are going to have to speak it--if we don't have to learn Arabic first.

When I was in FLA during the recount, I saw a broadcast on Sunday morning in which a local minister asked his congregation to pray that God's choice became President. The answer came, and I am glad it came as it did. Gore would have had no stomach for 9/11 and its aftermath; perhaps we would have never heard of the Pentagon hit, etc., a la TWA 800.

I only hope God has not forsaken us, and that Bush is reelected. There is so much unbelief in this country now, and so much corruption. One day there will be a reckoning for us all.

So, what you are saying is that this poll could be heavily weighted toward Dems because they were eager to answer the phone on the weekend. Well, could be true.

The sticking point I'm having is that it shows only 1% undecided. That doesn't seem realistic.

Clinton did not lose his debate with Dole in 1996.

Bush needs to outline his "substance" in the debates, judging from his performance last week. Simply reading scripted talking points at campaign stops isn't good enough. He needs to be able to think on his feet. We will see how he does during the next debate.

You think it might be wise for Repubs to run ads showing Mr Bush in FL, doing his job, and comforting hurricane victims? Perhaps have a narrator saying he may not be a glib or effective debater, but he gets the job done. Or something like that. It might just work, though I suppose some will think it's not appropriate, or that Mr Bush prefers not to publicize things like this.

Any thoughts?

I take no stock in this poll it is all a front from the Dems ... Look at Rasmussen daily tracking today... I have been following the steady gains on Rasmussen... The CNN/Gallup question was probably skewed something to the effect of If you had to choose a president taking the latest debate into consideration who would you vote for... Now there are swing voters out there that would choose Kerry however, once the facts of what Kerry actually said sink in the race is over... GLOBAL TESTS are against the Constitution.. I mean the founding fathers made the constitution so we would not allow our defense decisions to be made by foreign influence... How can you swear and oath to support and defend something that you would be willing to submit to a Global test in such critical times as contemplation of a pre-emptive strike to protect this country... Kerry really screwed himself with this comment and there is no taking it back ... can't try some trick like well I made a mistake in talking about how I would launch a pre-emptive strike but what is worse making one or talking about making one... What a Joke...

IEM actually caught Gore's surge and predicted his win the night before the election

In the popular vote it did.

It took 75 posts to finally come to the island of sanity amid a sea of panic. I think your analysis is sound.

The only possible way for this to take place is from the registration edge the Dems supposedly have. Rasmussen controls for party mix and shows no change. Newsweek doesn't and shows change, but they showed equivalent change pro Bush in early Sept.

People just don't change their party affiliation this rapidly. Something is wrong with these measurements.

The absolute numbers don't matter because no one knows the turnout model. But the deltas . . . they have to make sense and they do not. If there was a true delta post debate, Rasmussen would have seen it. These polls are not showing a debate effect. There is something else going on.

Exactly. Gallup might have gotten a lot more Democrats this time for whatever reason (weekend, more willing to answer polls, etc.). The only way to know is to see the internals from this poll and from the previous one. Since I'm not a paying members of Gallup's website, I can't access the internals for the previous poll and this one isn't posted yet.

Don't forget that Ras was the least reliable poll in the last election.

papes received letters PRIOR repeat PRIOR to the debate saying what a GREAT job Kerry had done & he won the debate.

Well then, lucky for Kerry that Bush stank so bad even his strongest supporters are pissed off at him. There's a large contigent of folks out there, myself included, that don't see Bush as some inspirational leader. Rather, we're like shareholders who expect the CEO to adequately perform his job.

It's way too late to switch at this point, so we expect Bush to buck-up and get out there and deliver. That means sufficiently articulating, defending and advancing the Bush doctrine so that the so-called undecideds wake-up and realize that promises of safety and security (along with being rescued by somebody else) from an untested man are just that. Promises from an untested man.

Cheney is a one-man brain trust. He'll slice and dice Edwards and use him for vinaigrette: Not pretty, not saucy, not high-falutin'. But Cheney gets the job done. Besides, the man worked for his money, in spite of what his detrators say.

Cheat notes? Do you suppose that is what pissed President Bush off or was it the biased questions by Lehrer? You know the president saw the notes and he got madder and madder as the debate progressed. I think Kerry had not just notes but copies of the questions.
