There have been several "live threads" posted today regarding the debate starting early this morning. Let's make this the official thread.
FR Live Thread: Bush Kerry - First Debate - Thread 2 - Here we go!
And so you still did not answer on the substance of what Bush said. You seem so more swayed about the polls--what about the substance--where is your outrage about the global test? where is your outrage about Kerrys policies? If you love the president then talk about the importance of the substance--you are much smarter than that. Are we voting on a man who speaks more glib -- whose policies are wrong for the country?

CNN/GALLUP POLL: Bush Lost Debate; Retains Double Digit Lead Over Kerry on Iraq, Terrorism

2. Regardless of which candidate you happen to support, who do you think did the better job in the debate: John Kerry or George W. Bush?
Kerry 53%, Bush 37%
5. Next, regardless of which presidential candidate you support, please tell me if you think John Kerry or George W. Bush would better handle the situation in Iraq.
Bush 54%, Kerry 43% (Pre-debate: Bush 54%, Kerry 40%)
If this was the only debate. Bush needs to take the lead in the next debate. He can't listen to Kerry's lies. He needs to point out that Kerry is a liar (tactfully) on whotever the issue is and then take the lead with his response. kerry just spewed too much misinformation and lies for Bush to debate them.
Thanks Gail for the lead to Hugh Hewitt. What an excellent and positive analysis! I think I'll go to bed now, on an 'up' note.
I almost choked on that one!
Excellent point about flip-flopping on the multi-lateral issue.
Bush reminded you of Carter in 1980? Ludicrous. I suppose Kerry reminded you of Reagan, too.
It was absolutely dazzling, wasn't it? Many creatures in the animal kingdom employ a bright display of color when threatened, confusing and dazing the enemy. A lizard makes its throat large and pink, etc.
How about this risible line?
Kerry: I have never wavered!
The breadth of his lies was stunning. I was downcast after the debate but I was talking to one of my friends about it and he asked me " tell me one plan Kerry has" . I couldn't answer. He had blinded me with his vast number of lies and he had no plan. Bush needs to ignore what Kerry says, attack his record and then say what he (Bush) is going to do.
So, Jorge you are disgusted. What are you going to do about it? Are you saying this debate made you decide President Bush is not the right person to lead this countrAre you a Kerry supporter now? Do you have some other candidate to vote for. Are you just not going to vote. What's your deal?
I know he mentioned it. Did you think I said he didn't?
LOL
Kerry must explain how raising taxes helps the economy.
Kerry must explain how the government can provide better healthcare while a) lowering wages within the healthcare sector and b) creating yet another bloated federal beaurocracy.
Kerry must explain his Second Ammendment flip-flops.
Kerry must explain how abortion-on-demand for any reason through all nine months is "moderate" and how Bush's view is "extreme".
Kerry must explain the above in light of his position on how we should treat terrorists.
Kerry must explain how all stem-cell research must be of the kind that ends developing life, though it has shown relatively little promise compared to its non-destructive counterparts (cord and adult).
Yes, even CNN said that in spite of Kerry doing so well, the President is still considered more strong and steadfast in his resolve. Kerry tried to make light of that resolve!
Still 2 more debates to go. I hope President Bush is more rested and relaxed than he was in this one.
LOL, Meek, are you 'flip flopping'??
Great Post
Me too. I think we feel a little 'down'. Kerry can stand up and look good lying. I imagine it fools a lot of people!
I didn't get to watch the debate --- but it sounds like Kerry might have been more smooth and suave about saying he'll do nothing much about terrorism, and that he'll turn over our sovreignty to the UN. I don't care how slick someone is about things they are dead wrong on. Televised debates are great with someone like Reagan who wasn't nervous with a camera ---- but if I put myself in the place of someone up there on that stage --- if they're shy at all -- or not big on seeking a lot of attention --- they aren't going to do as well as someone who likes the cameras.
