There have been several "live threads" posted today regarding the debate starting early this morning. Let's make this the official thread.
FR Live Thread: Bush Kerry - First Debate - Thread 2 - Here we go!
Yeah. What I said!
I thought Bush got some nice counter-jabs in on Kerry. I can't recall one time Kerry did that to Bush.
Do I wish Bush was more glib? Sure, but he isn't and that's just the way he is. Yet, Bush certainly did not come off as weak and defensive.
Ditto! Piffle indeed!!!

florida.......devastated by 4 hurricanes and Sissy Colmes
says to bob graham....."beautiful state you have here"
what a total limpnoodle jackass
Snugs, one thing to remember is that the next debate will be the "town hall" venue. President Bush always does much better when he is talking directly to the people. He's never comfortable in this type of setting. Someone mentioned that although the President's style is sometimes stumbling and hesitant, we remember what he says. Does anyone recall anything Kerry said? Were there any memorable lines? We will remember that "the biggest threat is nuclear weapons in the hands of terrorists."
Indeed. Thanks for the catch!
Tired!!!! What debate were you watching? I have never seen the president so animated about what he believes!!! I know that President Bush made me proud, and tho he might not have smoooothed talk like Kerry, I think that Bush was alive and kicking!!
No, actually he was pretty much a mental basket case, though I'll admit one heck of an expressive writer at times.
I don't like you becuase you are a racist cyst.
Which personality am I talking to now.
There were two Oct 2000 polls quoted here today, stating that Gore defeated Bush in the first debate. He was hailed as the winner.
That's not what HISTORY has written! You are wrong, but you have every right to be so.
LLS
Really? Did you see the camera shots of his expressions near the end when Kerry was talking?
Bush looked totally annoyed and frustrated. I love Bush to death, but I found his performance in the end unPresidential and embarrassing. Kerry is a lying two faced flip-flopping loser. Bush should have been confident in debating him. But he wasn't.
Great catches, xzins! Thanks for adding mine!
I made one with Michael Fatass "BLOWHARD" poster on both sides. One one side it says "This man PROFITED $110 MIL on AMERICAN BLOOD!". The other side also has the cBS eye and Linda Eddy's CBS forgery and it says "Can you SWALLOW the LIES? Fahrenheit 9/11 has 57 Documented Falsehoods!"
Is this supposed to mean something to me?
President Bush looked a little tired....but NOT weak
huge difference
Yup, I think even Stevie Wonder could see that.
I can't believe how delusional some here are about this debate. It argues that people wanted to see Bush get mean and nasty, when what he did in REALITY is exactly what he NEEDED TO DO to WIN the ELECTION... NOT the debate!
LLS
Actually, not. A man who wants to talk about security without doing anything about it is our worst fear. And clinton light, at that!
There were some memorable lines for me from Kerry: pass a "global test" for deciding to attack preemptively and giving Iran nuclear fuel to "see" if they would use it peacefully...The Senate said it would vote against signing the Global Warming Treaty and he attacked President Bush for not signing it ,too...His story about armor when he voted against funding it and hit on cutting taxes was also memorable...Doubling the number of special forces was pie in the sky rhetoric, too.
You're having a bad night and you are projecting.
I had my own debate standards coming in, they were conservative, and the President knocked it out of the park.
Broke my expectations biggie.
Kerry is toast.
