Thought a thread in Breaking News for the weekend covering Hurricane Jeanne would be a good thing. Post your link, pics, updates and freeper check-in's here
W Channel said a lot of people are going to ride this one out. Tired of leaving, I guess. Hope they aren't on the coast!
It figures - something always goes wrong when my husband has to go out of town. he leaves tomorrow for the week.
I think I'll call his boss if anything goes wrong........
Finally the discussion...
Hurricane Jeanne Discussion Number 48
Statement as of 11:00 am EDT on September 25, 2004
high resolution satellite images and surface observations show the
eye is over Marsh Harbor on the abaco island. The cloud pattern is
much better organized with very deep convection surrounding the eye
and excellent outflow. In fact...T-numbers from both TAFB and SAB
are 6.5 on the Dvorak scale suggesting winds of 127 knots.
An Air Force plane has been flying across the hurricane and
reported maximum winds of 113 knot at flight level. Initial
intensity has been increased to 100 knots. This makes Jeanne a
category three hurricane on the Saffir/Simpson hurricane scale.
There is a chance that the hurricane could become a category four
before landfall in Florida.
Jeanne continues to move toward the west or 270 degrees at 12 knots.
A high pressure system continues to be established to the north of
the hurricane. This pattern will continue to steer Jeanne toward
the west with a gradual turn to the northwest around the high
during the next 24 hours. This motion would bring the core of
Jeanne to the East Coast of Florida within the warning area late
tonight or early Sunday. Thereafter the hurricane should continue
across the Florida Peninsula in agreement with most of the track
models which consistently turn the hurricane northwestward around
the high. The official forecast is very close to the global model
consensus and the FSU superensemble.

Hi...does anyone have a list of lattitude/longitude numbers for specific towns in florida? Why do they give us coordinates on the storm....(latest 26.5 N...) when I have no idea what the towns are?
Thanks.....
Lets pray this starts going north and then north east, real soon!
Next place I own, if I can build, will be ICF on elevated land :o)

Ever hear of mudslides.
I just filled up my tank, if the power goes at least I can use my car's air condition. Even bought a six pack if needed for trauma. Hope we don't get much here in the Port Charlotte area. Lots of debris to still around that can become airborn. What a mess for the East coast.
It just sickens me to see Florida getting pounded yet again.
Believe me, I have been!!!!!!!!
JEANNE COULD BE A CATEGORY FOUR UPON LANDFALL.
PEOPLE IN THE PATH OF JEANNE NEED TO LEAVE...
THIS IS NOT A SMALL HURRICANE...EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's not surprising, though.
I don't much like that discussion that's just posted. Good grief!
This would be funny if it wasn't so heart-wrenching. I'm praying for you guys! I have a dear friend in Port St. Lucie, and I can't reach her, so I'm hoping she and her family have evacuated already. They lost their roof with Frances.
It wouldn't surprise me if many of those riding it out are doing it more out of economic need than because they are tired of this nonsense.
Let's face it, hurricane prep can be expensive, as well as costs involved with evac'ing, and heaven forbid the costs of deductibles for home repair/rebuilding. I'm sure lots of folks have gone into serious debt over the course of this hurricane season.
Thanks!
We'll have to watch to see if the pressure keeps dropping. If it's down to something like 945 mb by this afternoon, I'd be very concerned that she could hit as a Cat 4.
Yes, I think I would be tired of leaving myself. The problem they have, is they made this decision while it was weaker. This thing is still intensfying!
Have to go to work. Will check in this evening. Stay safe all.
God me too. This just makes me sick!!!
What do you think...will it turn north and skirt the Florida coast? Will she continue to strengthen or is there a chance of westerlies tearing her apart?
Hey Marine Mom:) I'm an Army Mom!
Looks like Vero is going to get hit hard, sorry to say. Is your sister on the beach? We'll keep you posted as long as possible. In the meantime- go here:http://www.wftv.com/weather/index.html
This is one of our local TV stations...an excellent resource.
