CONTROVERSIAL TEXAS RANCHER SAYS LOCKHART WANTED DOCUMENTS //
The source of a disputed CBSNEWS report claimed Thursday that Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart tried to "convince me as to why I should give them the documents." Texas Army National Guard Lt. Col. Bill Burkett tells the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM that he has suffered four seizures since being identified as CBS' source and dogged by the media... Developing...
Controversial Texas rancher defends release of documents to CBS
I learned that a long time ago!
I hope you are correct, but I am not so certain. Kerry could care a less about this issue and is free to continue to run the "All Iraq, All the Time" strategy. Unless the Bush campaign is aggressive with this now, when it still has the attention of the masses, i.e. the non-pajama wearing types, then it will mean nothing. They need some way to firm up the connection with the Kerry campaign and NOW.
By the way, did anyone see Kerry's new add regarding Iraq. You know, the one where he claims U.S. casualties are on the rise, you know, the one co-produced by Zarqawi. Grrrrr!!!!
The problem with dealing with crazy people is that THEY ARE F*NG CRAZY! For example, who would hire Charles Manson as a butler?
Your question exemplifies why people on FreeRepublic have trumped the lazy MSM reporters. It is an OUTSTANDING question!
It's all reruns after Greta.
I think Burkett was pretty well known to Dems. Al Gore had the information in 2000 from Burkett.
Barnes and Rather have known each other for over 30 years.
Very typical in Texas politics. Everybody knows everybody.
LOL
It's so delicious that something the president's enemies have been plotting against GWB for years is now blowing up in their stupid collective faces!
Burkett said he talked to "several low level bureaucratic kids" before he got to Cleland and Lockhart.
So, how MANY people in the Kerry campaign had Burkett worked with?
Why did Lockhart agree to talk to him?
Who typed the memos?
Who is "Lucy Ramirez"?
"The Republicans have cited his mental instability. Why embrace him now?"
Why, well, "News You Can Trust" Dan Rather, swore he was an unimpeachable source. If he is good enough for Dan, he is good enough for me.
But Dan Rather said last week he is "unimpeachable"! This is really getting fun.
I was begging Joe to hit him with the Burkett information and see how he responded. Joe was too kind.
Possible evidence? Taped phone conversations. Phone records indicating multiple calls to people within the DNC. Written communications between the camps. Perhaps material referencing the "Fortunate Son" ad campaign in Burkett's possession from the DNC, dated prior to the 60 minutes release. Maybe the computer disk that stored the forged memos.
Who knows if Burkett has any hard evidence to cite collusion, but with his experience in hard ball dirty politics it isn't out of the question he kept something for insurance.
I don't see this guy folding like others. His instability makes him unpredictable, Dems cannot count on this man to keep his mouth shut if he has evidence.
Rather's daughter worked for Barnes, and Dan appeared at a fundraiser for Barnes that got him in trouble years ago.
That's what's so delightful about this turn of events. The 'Rats CAN'T trash his credibility now without wrecking CBS and the entire "Fortunate Son" campaign which is ultimately based upon Burkett's ludicrous assertions about the supposed 'sanitizing' of Bush records in the 1990s. Even if the DNC and/or CBS try to trash him now, his current story will probably stick enough to do some harm (how long can Lockhart last???), AND his previous stories about Bush records, the forgeries, etc. will be under a permanent cloud of suspicion.
Burkett is playing the Martha Mitchell role.
