Agree. I still think there are certain pundits (Matthews being one of them) who are auditioning for a Kerry Administration press secretary job.

You're right, of course. I just want to make sure that we polish his "finish" to a high-gloss.

If Burkett gave them a false source, how did CBS verify that source? Burkett now admits the first source was a lie, but has given them a second source, that can't be verified.

The source which was ''unimpeachable'' at that. You make an excellent point.

cBS didn't tell us anything we didn't already know & sure as heck didn't answer any questions. IMO, the fact that they didn't answer any of the obvious questions just makes the story bigger.

"They were simply more logs on the fire."

They really did expend a tremendous effort in a disgusting cause which was the character assasination of the President of the United States. And it sank like a rock. I hope somewhere some of them are banging their heads against a wall.

Well, in fairness, I'm glad Ambiguous Pat got a job after leaving Saturday Night Live.

"Washington, DC--Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie issued the following statement on CBS’s admission today that memos regarding the President’s National Guard service are not real.

“We accept CBS's apology for a breach of the journalistic standards that provide the American people confidence in news organizations, but some disturbing questions remain unanswered.

“CBS has now answered questions about the authenticity of the documents but questions remain surrounding who created the documents, who provided them to CBS and if Senator Kerry's supporters, Party committee, or campaign played any role.

“Did Bill Burkett, Democrat activist and Kerry campaign supporter, who passed information to the DNC, work with Kerry campaign surrogate Max Cleland? Did Bill Burkett's talks with ‘senior’ Kerry campaign officials include discussions of the now discredited documents? Was the launch of the Democrat National Committee's Operation Fortunate Son designed with knowledge of the faked forged memos? Terry McAuliffe said yesterday that no one at the DNC or Kerry campaign, ‘had anything to do with the preparations of the documents,’ but what about the distribution or dissemination?

“In an effort to regain the trust of the American people CBS should not only investigate the process that led to the use of these documents but they should identify immediately those engaged in possible criminal activity who attempted to use a news organization to affect the outcome of a Presidential election in its closing days.”'

"well, I guess just this once I could call Damned Rather and Burkett (and Teresa) scumbags.

You are allowed. Only once though. Maybe we should start a thread about cursing in different languages?:)

With enough time, Teresa will say yitch moyo sraku in Ukrainian:) Let's see how long it takes:)

Yes, the dims and MSM had quite a finale planned for W. As you look back it really is breath taking what was going on. Now poor ole Kerry looks like he is on a stalled wind surf board.

Three cheers for the pajama people. The MSM gatekeeper monopoly is no more.

I won't be happy until the SS Kerry is on the bottom.

Tony Coelho just said on Hardball that the Gore campaign had the information on Bill Burkett during the 2000 elections.

Burkette boasted on the internet that he'd given the information to ex-Senator Max Cleland in the Kerry camp.

My guess is that Cleland was the 'unimpeachable source' that vouched for and then sent CBS, Boston Globe and USA Today to Burkette.

Just a little phone call to point the way without getting the Kerry fingers dirty.

I agree. It looks like Cleland is involved to some degree, and the next obvious question is........

Where did Max get the "docs"?

You mean Burkette had the memos or just the baseless lies in 2000?

I haven't read all the threads, but did Rather ever mention Burketts pure hatred of Bush, or his many dealings with the Democrat Party?

"Holy Sh-t! I so agree with you. This was a completely orchestrated campaign set up by (dnc?) - the talking-head talk-show "pundits" were all spouting the same thing - Bush's ANG service termination is suspect. Bush didn't show up for a physical (bfd). Bush got preferential treatment (I can only hope so). Bush shirked his obligations (not). "

The main accusations to do with cocaine usage have been quietly undergirding the Fortunate Son campaign. To the DNC's horror, these never 'took' but they tried hard with: the Lts Bush-Bath connection (including in one of the USAT forged docs), Kitty Kelly, Hatfield's 'Fortunate Son' book, National Enquirer etc. Kitty Kelly's book might have been damaging but it was too much a stretch of anyone intelligent to imagine Laura ever as a drug pusher. In fact, in their zeal to bring the President down, the DNC completely overstretched their reach by including forged docs and talking points based on them. The campaign showed an influence by the extreme leftwing conspiracy theorists (e.g Hatfield wrote an X-Files guide too), and was doomed to failure from the start. It was also just plain dumb because it's obvious now that the voters don't care about Bush's TANG service in 1972. I'd like to know who architected the DNC campaign though. Rove would have done a much better job, if he wastes his time doing this kind of thing anyway.
