'There are a number of serious questions that remain unanswered and they need to be answered,' says White House spokesman Scott McClellan.
'Bill Burkett, who CBS says now was their source, is not an unimpeachable source, as CBS has claimed.'
'There are news reports of Burkett having senior level contact with the Kerry campaign. That raises questions.'
'What were those contacts and what was discussed? Who is the original source of the documents?'
'Who is responsible for forging these documents?

Both Nixon and Clinton had scandals that involved Cubans in places where they didn't belong.
Obscure and sick. Apologies up front.

Just suppose this... Terry is behind this boondoggle. Match the rhetoric he has been throwing all over the place the past few years to the content of the forged memos.
The headhunter in the Kerry campaign is Terry's contact. He contacted Burkett. Burkett is a paid fall guy.
cBS statement that their source is protecting his source just clouds the issue even further.
I would like to see an apology to President Bush broadcast at prime time. BRING IT ON!!!

It's bottoms-up bloggerism usurping the gatekeeper power held close to the chest by erudite Ratherites of the world.Very American, in the tradition of Tom Paine.
Someone needs to market PJs with sayings on the pocket to the pajamahadeen.

I've studied what motivates Carville. It's not fame. It's not power. It's not ego.
What makes James Carville get up and do his job every day, which let's face it is not a very pleasant one based on his peers, is loyalty. A loyal man is not a bad man. When he put that trashcan on his head when the election results came in during 2002 and laughed at himself for all of us to share, he behaved like a decent human being. You just have to catch him after he's punched out on the DNC timeclock. I'd certainly rather have James Carville watching my back than Trent Lott.

The Times just ran a
new story about an hour ago. They can't afford to be the only major news organization not covering this.
They are hampered, though, by the fact that they might actually have to send reporters to Texas to find some answers. That's so beneath them, you know.

It's definitely ratchet-this-up time now. I am at work, but there is a big screen on the wall with the msnbc feed. They have been on Rathergate related interviews and reporting continuously for the last 3 hours, with no signs of stopping. Put some ice on that ... Dan

I also think the person he is covering for is part of the Kerry campaign - because he desperately wants Kerry to win. One thing CBS's half-admission today tells us is that the Republicans had nothing to do with getting these documents to CBS. If they had been, CBS would have quickly outted them as the source.
But eventually the public will want to know why CBS is covering up for someone they claim misled them.

I said it at a cost. My go to hell record just took two more registers for saying that. I'll go feed some meals on wheels to make up for it though! I think I'd better declare bankruptcy!

Chris Lehane is more than likely behind this. He was Gore's dirty tricks guy and now works for Kerry. Lehane was the one who leaked the DWI the last week of the campaign.

Wow was that good! Although you could even add Kennedy to that list! What did Kennedy, Nixon, and Clinton have in common......They both had cubans where they didn't belong.
You sure do have a smart sense of humor! If you don't mind I'd like to offer that one to the late night circuit........
