WASHINGTON It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles.
But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry W. MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Times has found.

LOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!!!
I called this!! I made a joke about this when this happened. I said, "I bet all these newspapers go dig up dirt on Howlin, Buckhead and KC".
Who would have thought... Conservative Activists at FreeRepublic! NO!
(Wait till they find out that the owner of FR is really a double agent, working both for the CIA and the Mossad. Also, a deep Democrat plant)
Ya need to make a "contribution" to the VRWC, courtesy of JimRob, so we can keep the horsepower runnin'.
hey LA Times that wasn't a highly technical explanation Buckhead gave.... No offense to Buckhead... I'm sure fokes in the media understood what he was talking about but assumes freeper are all dumb as doorknob.... which is funny because be come what technically inclined to even post here...know some HTML tags and such
While bloggers and some conservative activists hailed Buckhead as a hero in their longtime efforts to paint the mainstream media as politically biased, some Democrats and even some conservative bloggers have marveled at Buckhead's detailed knowledge of the memos and wondered whether that suggested a White House conspiracy.
I'm shocked that a conservative would post on Free Republic. Shocked!
HEY LA TIMES!
We're ALL conservative activists!!
You potato!
Oops. That was supposed to be a private message.
.....Buckhead's batting a thousand. Must be killing the LA Times......
Outstanding observations of an outstanding conservative..
This is all they've "got", and I think it's only meant for the weak-minded, slobberingly (?) hate-filled anti-Bush people/voters who are as desperate as CBS is for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER to give the forgeries a pass. Did they think a Democrat would ever take the time to figure out or broadcast the documents were fake? NO WAY, JOSE. They would have sat on them until the Millenium. From their side, the end justifies the means. Period.
It's news that Buckhead's a conservative, but it isn't news that Barnes is a lefty who's given a HALF MILLION BUCKS to Kerry.
Well whodathunkit! A conservative posting on a conservative web forum? Will wonders never cease!
"Freepers collectively possess more analytical horsepower than the entire news division at CBS," he wrote in an e-mail, using the slang term for users of the freerepublic site."
Thank you Buckhead for being a team player. Very honorable!
Doesn't matter if the bust came from the Pope or the Devil.....it's flat the truth
Maybe this means that the only ones dumb enough to believe everything a democrat activist reporter puts on the air is a democrat - never a conservative republican.
The left-wing media always likes to blame the evil conservative instead of getting to the bottom of the actual controversy.
Buckhead, I am proud that you are a FReeper. It's a pleasure that I live in the same Metropolitan area as you do. I am sure you'll be able to wither whatever partisan storm the libs throw at you as do what they do best -- attack the messenger instead of the message.
The LA Slimes, like the rest of the MSM, underestimates FReepers, if it wasn't Buckhead who pointed it out first, it would have been one of thousands of other FReepers with any modicum of common sense. SeeBS wasn't going to get away with passing off forged memos. FReepers are too smart for that.
What the hell are the rest of us, chopped liver?
