Please help me out here but I seem to remember Dan Rather would refer to himself on occasion as "this old Marine". As I remember he never was a Marine or had gotten washed out. Would this be a good time for him to release his own service records?
Can anyone vouch for accuracy or is my memory suspect?
Rather should have been able to deal with it mentally, but in actually he couldn't handle it, and so he played the 'physically unable to perform' card! I saw it happen to recruits in my platoon who had plenty of physical ability but were weak in the mind and wussed out!
Rather WUSSED OUT!
By the way, all of you on this thread really need to get one of these Swiftee stickers for your vehice!
Technically, he never advanced in his Marine career past "maggot". Never even got to "Lady".
Do you use your Marine Corps experience to try to close off debate, do you claim superior authority or moral standing because of it? If not, you're not a loser.
When Dan went to college in Huntsville, Texas, it was Sam Houston State Teachers College. It became a university much later. B. G. Burkett got the rest right.
If I walk by a Marine Recruting Poster, it does not make me a marine, I must complete Boot Camp. When I am allowed to unbutton my collar button at the end of Boot Camp, I am then allowed to wear the emblem, and call myself a Marine.
They also don't like that puddle of pee around their combat boots when they're standing in formation and the DI's in their face.
'Course when we went through that swagger stick would have been in our belly, too.
I'm sure mine's waiting in my mailbox at home!
I can't wait to stick it on! I'll mail you a pic!
You will love this: A while back Dan Rather went to Wharton Texas as they had redone his old home. He showes up in new jeans that were still blue, and high dollar cowboy boots. The leather soles were not even scrached. He plays at being everything, even a homeboy.
It's in your mail box, unless the postman stole it and put it on his truck!
I have some friends around Wharton.
I can imagine their reaction to that fake a**hole!
I am new at this, so be patient. I have a question, and I do not know how to post one, or get information.
I know that Military Reserve Units, and The National Guard fought in every war up to Vietnam. The way I hear news people talk it appears no members of reserve units ever fought in Vietnam. That must be wrong, as I had friends who went to Vietnam out of Military Reserve Units.
How does the news media get away with refering to them as draft dodgers? After active duty I served a short time in the reserve,(as do most)and I don't think I was a draft dodger.
How would one get information on the number of Reservist and National Guardsman who served in Vietnam?
un semper fi Blather, you altered toad.
God Bless Zell!!!!!!!
His Marine basic training was aborted, as his 'journalism' career should have been long ago...

Rather was/is a "Baby Blue Marine".
And he's a much poorer journalist than Jan Michael Vincent is/was an actor.
As long as it doesn't have the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on it, no objections here.
This set a pattern for his life. He can't hang in any situation in which he can't either Bullshit or Bully.
Muttly once made a U-Turn in Harvard University' parking lot.
Does that mean he "went" to Harvard?
Well, Rather IS "old," anyway.
's.
Journalism major.
"Rather done in by two Burketts"
Strange isn't it? I wonder what the odds are?
