This sure puts my mind at ease. It was well worth the wait.

So, lets just move on and be happy.

Like we're idiots or something lower.

First, the folks at CBS are total partisans and could care less about the truth. For purposes of the more intelligent discussion that takes place here: There is a huge difference between a couple of questionable characters saying inflammatory things about a president (which is all CBS really had) and a story claiming to be presenting documentary evidence proving those otherwise questionable characters are telling the God's honest truth.

This has now gone from the "dog ate my homework" to "I stand by my plagiarized book report."

once Ivan hits...this too will be forgotten

This is actually a good strategy on the part of CBS. Just hold out until Ivan can knock Memogate onto the back burner.

What a nothing-burger. Why did it take all day to produce this drivel? The law of unintended consequences will continue to apply...CBS will continue to injure the Kerry campaign.

I was hoping you would weigh in on this since I value your opinion on this as much as anyone I know! CBS is going to wish they had fired Rather and not continued to go down this path IMHO unless like you said admitting a little is actually worse.

Now I have to wonder how much on-air reporting that Rather has done over the years is based on lies and falsehoods as he projected what the news "should" be according to Rather and ignored facts all along his career path.

In other words, this statement adds up to NOTHING.

1) we thought the docs were authentic -- duh. They can't admit anything else.

2) "we should redouble our efforts" -- meaningless. What does this mean? Nothing. It's not an internal CBS investigation. CBS is not promising to release information. Working twice as hard at the coverup as they've been doing previously is not an improvement!

This statement is EMPTY, it's WORTHLESS.

We need a fresh thread for the CBS Evening News!

I've had enough of the semi-news to last a lifetime; I don't need to watch a show featuring a forger - and if he isn't the forger, he's more than welcome to tell us who is, but until then, it sticks on Dan Rather. CBS is gone in my house, period. I'd hope that every other freeper stops watching them as well.

My Release at 2:00 pm came true unbelievable
News Release:
CBS has some reservation whether the documents are real, but the facts in the documents are real. If President Bush would answer the facts of the documents this controversy would be over.

My guess, there's a battle going on within CBS.

I think you are exactly right. That's why there were so many delays today. Heyward's statment was the only thing they could agree on. It is going to be very interesting.

Rush used to speak of putting a sign up on the bottom of your TV when Clinton was on TV as a friendly reminder of his trouble with the truth. Perhaps we all now need to put a sign on our TV's when the CBS news is on that says "Possible work of fiction."

"This statment makes zero legal sence. It is a man refusing to listen to his lawyers or a client so guilty that giving in even a little bit means certain disaster."

Ahhh, so *now* you see the light...after first claiming that Senator Kerry would have to *invent* people like me to keep this story on the front burners...

Lets see, your old theory was that the Kerry Campaign itself actually *wanted* this story to somehow magically "distract" the public from his Senate record, yes?!

Oh please...
