Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:
"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."
Simpler translation . . . "Yep, those memos still say what we wrote."
THIS was the whole statement? We thought we were right to begin with so we're working to prove we were right? (As opposed to finding the truth).
Parsing right out of the Clinton playbook.
Their answer...."people in the know..."
BBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
What an election strategy.
Now Dan Rather is demanding that the President answer the charges. CBS lies and it's the President's fault that they lie because he won't answer the question because he has released all his records and he was honorably discharged. It sure sounds like Kerry logic. I think it's time we go after the advertisers again.
Good find, there definitely is a big difference between accurate and authentic.
I can see your point that this will follow the same profile as most corperate america foul ups... Where the peon gets the ax for the masters mistake, but with the adimance and blantent yellow journalism that Rather has espoused. They have to either cut him loose or suffer in the ratings and possible tank the network. Either way it should be intresting.
I know this case from grad school, but can't remember it. Could you give us a briefing?
Forgery doesn't matter when you have useful idiots who are willing to perjure themselves.
I no longer have the link (had a computer crash) but Clinton pardoned those FALN Puerto Rican terrorists who committed multiple bombings and mutilations in NYC.
All to get his "wife" elected as Senator in NY.
It stunk pre-9/11, but post 9/11, we MUST remind people of this when she stands for re-election.
Trusted face that America believes: $75 million market value
Half dead computer with a slow dial-up connection and desire for the truth...
Priceless
For everything money can't buy, choose the truth
Now for a little twisting & pulling.
...before the *yank*. :o)
I'm sure they were planning something significant in the way of an announcement or a defense, but they couldn't put it together. They're still squirming.
>Translation: We need more time to forge more documents.
Or, they're betting the farm that once Ivan hits, and spreads devastation up through Alabama, Tennessee, Virginia and beyond, this too will be forgotten and the sheeple will focus on something else, a la Lacy Peterson.
Bet he got a good night's sleep and had a peaceful afternoon.
Sounds like the 86 year old secretary interview didn't work out.
She kept calling him Mr. Murrow.
The head of CBS can't even use spellcheck. Incredible.
They should have sent it over to the DNC for vetting.
After all, we KNOW they have Word on their computers.
They should probably use some of the tobacco company lawyers they spent the last 40 years grilling.
With that added bit of CBS asininity, it is obvious that both Heyward and Rather should resign immediately.
