Statement by the President of CBS News, Andrew Heyward:
"We established to our satisfaction that the memos were accurate or we would not have put them on television. There was a great deal of coroborating [sic] evidence from people in a position to know. Having said that, given all the questions about them, we believe we should redouble our efforts to answer those questions, so that's what we are doing."
Anybody got a report on what Rather said tonight on the evening news?
September 15, 2004
Dear Mr. Appelgate:
Given that CBS has not promptly and publicly retracted false testimony about the President of the United States, while our country is at war, and while our soldiers are in harm's way; it is apparent falsehoods included in CBS network news programs broadcast by your station, WOIO channel 19, are not in the public interest.
It is also my belief WOIO has partnered with CBS, and perhaps others, with an intent to propagandize and defraud the public. This is a betrayal of the public trust.
Therefore, the topic of Dan Rathers falsified military documents, and a complete record of WOIOs positive, corrective actions; must be considered when WOIO channel 19s license is up for renewal.
Respectfully request a prompt reply and this letters inclusion within the station's public file.
Sincerely,
OneLoyalAmerican

Redoubling. To put it in card terms, they have just doubled down on a very bad hand.
Thanx Calling now We ALL need to call and flood these fakes with our cries of disgust.
"There are no forged documents at CBS. Never!"
--CBS Information Minister Andrew Haywerd
Are you ready for a little protest?
I haven't held a sign since I dresed up as ELVIS and held a "No More Gore" sign in 2000. I'm ready.
Translation: We got caught and now it's panic time. They're gonna pin the whole thing on their "document experts" and clear Rather.
Understandable.
Send complaints to Jim Geraghty at Kerryspot, National Review, he coined it, I am just using it.

You betcha.
Like watching a sinking barrel roll down a river with 87 rats competing with each other over who gets to stay aboard...
I let L.L. Bean know that we won't be buying anything from their catalog this winter. They are a sponsor of the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.
Oh geez... after all that delay, this is what they come up with?
CBS News, and it's President, are nothing more than a freaking joke. Integrity and Credibility is now zero.
But the content is not accurate.
There are very many problems with the "content" such as nameing the wrong commander, wrong address, and not standard military lingo, just for starters. Even this fade doesn't jive.

I swear that one day Brit is going to haul off and smack wild weenie Juan right in his lefty leaning mouth! Oh my!
If this is their line, why did they delay it from 12 EDT til 3 EDT til whatever time they finally released it? It's the same load of crap they've given from the beginning. Who are the credible corroborating sources? The President has no question to answer, the documents are forgeries and See BS needs to be answering questions
Just called CBS NY ( 212 975 3691 ) man did they give me the bums rush off the phone. Told them tonights statement was absurd, dump Rather and I will no longer support their sponsors..Girl sounded a bit rushed, nervous and tired ..HUMMMM Wonder why ?
"We (the DNC/Kerry Campaign/CBS) established to our satisfaction (decided it must be true because it impacted Bush negatively) that the memos were accurate (Could pass muster with the Liberal Arts majors in our newsroom, but not with anybody who knows anything technical) or we would not have put them on television (endangered our advertising revenue) There was a great deal of coroborating evidence (some statements were made, not for attribution from unnamed sources) from people in a position to know (close to and inside of the DNC and Kerry campaigns). Having said that (Having said exactly nothing), given all the questions about them (given the fact that 100% of all genuine experts say they're bogus), we believe we should redouble our efforts (stall, since two times zero is still zero) to answer those questions (stonewall until those questions go away), so that's what we are doing. (so we're doing nothing)"
