On September 11, 2001 our nation was attacked. Like many New Yorkers Steve Golding lost a friend in the World Trace Center attack. He created a flash video that became one of the most watched videos on the internet. I was webmaster for WABC radio host Steve Malzberg at the time and contacted Steve Golding to see if we could run the video from our website. It was the most requested video that we had on the site.

It is appropriate that on this anniversary I link to it again so that we can be reminded what this anniversary is all about. Why our friends, neighbors and relatives who serve in our armed forces are sacrificing their lives. It must also serve as a reminder why we must mnake the right choice on November 2, 2004. Too many of my fellow New Yorkers have forgotten or at least they have become complacent, thinking we can negotiate with evil. We cannot.

I am linking to the video so that we can remind ourselves of that day and also so that some newbies to this site who have never seen it may have the opportunity to view it.

After the attack and during the recovery a memorial light was put in place. Two powerful spotlights facing the sky where the towers stood. The following shots were taken by me from pier 58 in Brooklyn on April 13, 2002 one day before the lights were switched off. It was also my 50th birthday.

I'll never forget 9/11. I was asleep when the planes hit. I got up around 10 a.m., and as I was washing up and getting ready to come downstairs I heard my mother's footsteps on the stairs. I was still in the bathroom when she spoke to me, and I will never forget what she said to me: "Felecia, we're in trouble." Then she proceeded to tell me what had happened, and I was stunned. I could not process what she was telling me. I wanted to believe I was still in bed, dreaming.

I dressed as quickly as I could and raced downstairs to the living room. I didn't want to believe it, but then I turned on the TV. Every channel was out except for CBS (we didn't have cable then). I watched the snowy picture of what I thought were two towers. Wow, look at all that smoke, I thought. So much smoke you can only see one tower. Then I focused on what the newscasters were saying, and I read the headlines on the screen, and that was when I realized what had happened. The reason why I could only see one tower was because the other tower was gone. And as I was getting this through my head I saw the other tower begin to sag and sway, and then it slowly crumbled into dust. The CBS camera recording this was set up at some point in midtown, I think -- it might have been the Empire State Building. Anyway, there was no audio of the collapse. To this day, when I remember the tower collapsing that's the way it happens in my mind: slowly, silently. I felt so numb I could hardly believe it. All I could think was that I might have just seen ten thousand people die.

It took a while for the shock to pass, and for the anger to take hold. I remember the exact moment that the anger rose in me: when I saw on FR the pictures of the Palestinians celebrating in the streets. If I ever start to lose the anger, a quick memory of those "people" dancing in the streets will pump it right back up for me.

And a Freeper too. My memory is fuzzy but I believe she's not the only Freeper lost that day.

I built this page right after 9/11 (it gave me something to occupy my mind) and although I've added a couple of pictures (the steel crosses) and the song "Have You Forgotten?" since then, it still takes me right back to that moment in time when we were ALL AMERICANS!!

Oh yes. That's the key. When we were all Americans. Seems we have a candidate on the other side who may not have forgotten because it never meant much to start with. His wife sort of made that clear when she said that anyone who does not agree with her husband's healthcare plan was an idiot! {Well! Excuse me, Ms Ketchup! I think your husband and his healthcare both suck and I am no idiot!}

Thanks for bumping the thread. I hope a lot of people get to watch the video. I hope it reminds people what we have to do and what MUST be done.

Going to hit the sack. PARodrig (who is running for congress) and I will participate with the rest of the Tri-State chapter in tomorrow's NY March against Terror. If I don't get my four hours of snooze I won't be any good.
