Well can they explain how General "Buck" Staudt was interfering with Killian doing his job and trying to "sugarcoat" Bush's evaluation in 1973, when he had retired the year before?

I am willing to bet there were print balls available with the th like that, and the th does appear on other Bush ANG records in that manner, so, those thinking that the superscript will be the smoking gun are probably going to be proved wrong. All they need is one document that Bush provided the media that has the superscript, and that piece of the puzzle becomes weak, and even Freepers have provided links to documents that appear to show the superscript was used. It is simply not a provable point, despite it's probability.

But, the fact that the K in the signature doesn't match, that the "writer's" son and widow claim they are fake, the fact that the spacing is identical to MS Word, the fact that experts say the font is only available on computers and many other issues really are more compelling anyway.

This is what happens, however, when people focus too heavily on one small detail before they have it 100% nailed down.

The Secret Service probably doesn't monitor this website. But there may be a few other websites that they monitor (DU?).

I'm not disputing your whole message, no reason to reread it. I am disputing the passage I quoted.

I'm saying that the Executive had a half-space bar for the width of an i and a space bar for the width of an n, making an i one unit wide, an n two units wide, an m three units wide, etc. Stop me here if I'm wrong.

True Type divides them up into much smaller slices, with much finer resolution, plus kerning. You might have been very good with the Executive, but you would not match what a modern word processor and laser printer do, such that one would not be able to tell the difference. No way.

I'd definitely like to see you try.

I'm most interested in the way the number 4 is done on this machine. Do you know what typefaces were available for this machine?

Examples of three of the 12 typefaces are represented in the ad I posted just above. I don't know what the other 9 are. But you raise a good point, being that detailed font comparisons are likely to provide additional evidence that teh forged documents were not produced in 1972 and 1973, but sometime after 1997, and most likely, sometime in 2004.

...However, this raises another question: why would anyone have personal memos, written to cover themselves, typed by someone else?....

In my experience it was routine to have the typist type up a memo to file.

That's all the proof that's necessary.

I have taken a look at several other documents regarding Bush's service. Not all, of course, were produced out of Texas, but I have seen none that remotely match the CBS documents.

"oh, so you're one up for the "Karl Rove did it" theory?

Hey, remember when Registered did that photo of Jane Fonda and Kerry? It was done as a parody, but was then soon picked up and distributed like it were the genuine article. Maybe they started as a hoax among some dumb ass Rats, and found their way into Rather's hands, who could not resist running with it."

I like the hoax idea, and it's possible. It could even have been a prank that was supposed to be distributed around an office, but got loose. Karl Rove? Nah...that never happened.

There's an explanation here, and it's not the one people are expecting. I hope we hear it.

What are you worried about...further (real) documentation that is more damning? A Republican source? A distraction?

Proportional type was available on the IBM Executive typewriter

Was kerning possible, where one letter would share horizontal space with the immediate previous letter?

Isn't Hackworth often described as "THE most decorated Vietnam vet" ?

Could it be Hackworth has a few phony medals too? Just speculating, of course. But if so, guilty knowledge could be a factor in motivating Hackworth to work behind the scenes -- against Bush, and in favor of a fellow phony.

Whoever came up with the idea would have made sure to insulate himself by many times. These copies were probably handed to several individuals so that no one could trace them back.

This whole thing reminds me of the analogy some people make in evolution arguments. Believing every one of the anomalies that have been pointed out here came together perfectly in one document typed in the early 70's is the same as believing you can set off an explosion in a junkyard, the result being a perfectly functional 747.
